2023 FL DE Damon Wilson (Georgia Signee)

I guess I don’t understand the sunshine that was blown for months by our “experts” with Wilson & Keeley.

It made no sense when you step back logically and look at it.

2 kids from Florida with offers from 2 programs => then ours in the SEC conference offering significant financial incentives to sign.

Occam’s Razor.

Moved 55 spots up to #9 overall on Rivals. Really hope this one is not trending away, Wilson is a difference maker in this class and one that would really hurt to not land, especially with Keeley looking doubtful and Matayo as a big question mark. Really glad that JT and Sawyer have at least one more year, but we really need to restock the cupboards at DE even with a really good haul in Abor and Jackson last year. Mickens is looking good but we need one more and I have been holding out hope that Wilson is the other guy.

Everyone should listen to Birms latest update... it's pretty alarming.

Basically said that OSU is not willing to do up front NIL so expect battles like this to continue. Said that a few of these recruitments should've been over in September but our lack of NIL push has kept these battles going.

Didn't sound positive for Basically any remaining target outside of Mickens.

I agree and thought this was going to be the result months ago.

Did Birm, Kurelic, Wiltfong not have the acumen to this would be the result?

Why they were bullish a month or two ago shows an incredible lack of foresight.

And cab I get a definition of “upfront”.

If we are able to give incoming players money in September of their freshman year why wouldn’t we do it in December before they sign.

That's the B1G holier than thou stuff coming into play imo.

Schools aren't supposed to promise NIL money to come to their school. That's the "pay for play" you keep hearing about. Once a kid is signed up then he can get all the NIL money you can arrange for him.

Some schools obviously don't give a tinkers dam about that point of procedure and are going the pay for play route. There is no way to enforce it so the B1G schools are taking a self imposed handicap in recruiting for no obvious benefit.

This is part of why I keep saying the football teams need to be split off from the Universities now that the players are paid. The University business model and mission isn't the same thing as a professional football team and vice versa.

This wouldn't be an issue with Urban

It's not even really clear why we need the NFL anymore anyway now. Seriously just make college the pros and screw the NFL.

We have better team names, stadiums, traditions etc anyways.

That's why I threw out the Euro soccer club sports model. The players are all professional now.

Create different tiers/leagues and go run your team.

I know I care a lot more about the Columbus football Club Buckeyes than I do the other two professional football clubs in Cincy and Cleveland.

Yeah same here and it's not even close.

That's precisely the problem, the B1G schools will eventually end up playing the NIL game but after we get left in the last decade. I really don't see the point in ignoring the issue if we're just not talking about it. I get not guaranteeing NIL money before a commitment, but why not make the contacts for recruits up front to let them work out the terms privately? We know NIL is there, just fight fire with fire if you've got the fire (and we do).

Yeah it would. It's not his money. He's actually leading an NIL, and we're still having issues that we're talking about. He should be able to work magic from his NIL perch, but not much has been done.

That's a matter of preference, because I'm not a fan of CFB outside of OSU and a few elite teams across the country(so maybe like 3-4 other teams I'll bother watching). I don't think anything about CFB is better, its JV football, IMO, and NFL is varsity. It's better quality, and not as much childish emotions get in the way in NFL like they do in CFB. But to each their own, and there's a world where both have success and can feed off of each other. But IDK if the NFL wants to bother with CFB other than the combine and after season bowl games
