Now that Firefox has been more susceptible to critical flaws, with no inherent auto-updating mechanism, we'll see how great it really is. I'll stick with IE.
For the record, a lot of us don't really care about the supposed security differences, one way or another(although I do like the added control I have over which cookies to accept). I use it for the wonderful extensions, like the ones that add mouse gestures and tie-ins to BugMeNot.com. For a program used as much in a day as a web browser, learning mouse gestures saves a great deal of time.

That is ideal if you view alot of porn.............
What does porn have to do with the usefulness of Firefox extensions?

the casual web browser can use IE without any problems. Have to do windows updates of course.
Without a doubt. Either browser works fine for newbies, especially with MS Antispyware installed. In my opinion, it's the more experienced users that benefit the most from Firefox.

I don't know, I guess I'm just not that impressed by Firefox. Speaking from the admin side, they really didn't do a good job in many areas that are necessary for an enterprise environment. I'm sure it's different for home use.

No I wasnt referring to the extensions of firefox.........just meant in general firefox is more beneficial if you visit porn sites and such, that are loaded with spyware, virii, etc....

I wasnt impressed with firefox either, and I am a very experienced internet user, I guess it's the ol expression "If it aint broken.........dont fix it". Until I find a prob with IE, I wont quit usin it. In fact I have always been very impressed with IE 6, since SP2 came out, with the popup blocker and such. Dont have anything against firefox, just didnt find much that impacted on me with it.

Can't say I disagree with either of you. Firefox isn't the panacea that the blogs make it out to be. Popup blocking and tab browsing (via myIE) are both available in IE now anyway.

Since you've obviously seen and dismissed the standard hype, let me mention some less-known but still incredibly useful features for experienced users: "Find as you type" and mouse gestures. Find as you type lets me browse most web pages without using the mouse. It doesn't sound that impressive, but it's something you have to try using to appreciate. Mouse gestures I've mentioned already, and are only available through extensions, but I can't really overstate their convenience for me. I recommend the extension All-in-One Gestures for them, as there's more than one out there.

I guess I'd just recommend that veteran internet users ought to try those two features before dismissing Firefox.

I started using FireFox because I wanted to use a new piece of software which was becoming more popular.. as a techie, I need to know as much about everything as I can. One of the biggest reasons I enjoyed it when I first started using it, was that I didn't have to update it all the time.. Extensions are wonderful, but not important in the least bit.

IE7 will have tabbed browsing, and will run in a limited user environment even on an administrative account so that viruses and spyware can not execute themselves to install.

I still use FireFox, as it is generally better than IE for now... even though all these exploits recently have been nudging me to just go back. I would NEVER roll FireFox out to a corporate environment, as there is no promise that FireFox will be patched for any exploit.

Just sitting in FireFox till IE7.

I have both installed - for the same reason that Lloyd mentioned. I do tech support and need to be able to troubleshoot both. Also been using Thunderbird a bit, just to get used to it. It is like a clone of Outlook Express, but works well enough.
