Firefox about to get IE on its knees

BTW, it is all of the little things that make Firefox better. Such as today I discovered that if you right click on an email link, you can copy the link location or copy the email address. That means you don't have to remove the 'mailto:' after pasting it into your email client. This is useful if you do not have your email account set up to handle being the default mail client on your PC.

Yep, firefox is finally being attacked too (that was another huge plus for a while, since it was an uber-geek browser, few viruses were made for it).

I installed it again last night just to toy around with it. Still a few things I dont like. It is absolutely slower than IE, no doubt. Visited my normal sites that I use IE for, and can tell a definite difference.

The tabbed browsing is nice, but nothing major for my taste. I like the weather extension. Were a couple other things, but now of course I forget what they were.

Perhaps the older versions were faster, cuz I was pretty sure it was faster on a lot of sites back when I first installed it.

The biggest thing about tabbed browsing is that it really allows you to organize your pages a lot better. You can dedicate one browser window to buckeyeplanet with a couple of tabbed pages, whereas you can have another window with your homework.

I also like to be able to read what is in my taskbar, so having 14 different browser windows is not very useful.

BTW, for any of you newer types, make sure to hit CTRL-TAB to cycle thru the tabs.

I hope all you firefox users know about the extensions you can download for it. I have downloaded a built in mp3 player, weather forecast, countdown (93 days, 0 hours, 12 minutes, 50 seconds Till OSU Football), bandwidth tester, dictionary search (usefull for those who dont know what an ombudsman is), autocopy, image zoom (for small porn pictures), colorzilla (eyedropper....awesome for matching school colors when making wallpapers), mapit (use the mapquest engine to get a map of any address), and adblock (block ANY image).

you can also download themes. somebody needs to make a BP firefox theme.

I'll second that. Being able to tailor this browser to your needs is awesome. I use autocopy, forecastfox, foxytunes, chipmarks, and the StumbleUpon thing is pretty fun. I also love the drop-down menu search bar on the upper-righthand side of the screen.

I am gonna just force myself to use firefox, see if I can grow to like it better than IE. Am usually one of those "If it ain't broke, dont fix it" people, but what the hell, not like I cant have both available. Does firefox update itself btw? As in patches/critical updates? Or do you have to download them manually?

Make sure to try out the themes too... I never got around to it and I absolutely love the brushed theme.... very small but still has plenty of room for everything and looks very nice...

and best yet it is similar to our helmets :)

MAX

I have said I use both. Some websites do not work with Firefox. I used to use Slimbrowser, an IE variant that allowed tab browsing. I'm with you, Firefox is slow. Have you tried the moox version? It is supposed to have the tweeks and it seems to be a little faster.

It is fun to play and try something new. For some work activities the old reliable is all you need.

Firefox will show a red arrow in the upper right hand when an update is available. It is a click and load process.

Pretty sure it's manually... tho personally I'd much rather do it myself than have a company like Microsoft adding stuff to my computer all of the time...
It an automatic -- periodic check (Settings-Advanced).

You can do "Check Now" from the Options Advanced Tab

Want to know one of my biggest pet peeves? How huge PDF files are, how they rape my machine while opening, and how long it takes for them to close.

And firefox allows you to choose whether to view PDFs in the browser or download them externally (which makes opening and closing much faster).

I'll be honest, I loved Firefox but never bothered to look at the extensions as I got on board really early (like 0.3) when there were few.

Just found another great one that you will like BMax, an "Open in IE" extension for clicking on a link...

BfS - have you found the ColorZilla extension? Allows you to get an color reading anywhere on the page so you can match it in your graphics. Might come in handy.

Now I just need an extension to change my right-click menu... added so many features that "Open in a New Tab" goes right off the screen. Whoops.

after reading the posts on this thread I finally installed it a few days ago. I like it but it's going to take time to get familiar with it. I really liked IE but out with the old in with the new
