Fines will be imposed for clear cases of flopping

The NBA announced to its teams this week at its annual pre-draft camp that fines will be imposed on players starting next season for clear cases of "flopping," ESPN.com has learned.
The league office has yet to determine exact fine amounts for offending flops and how fines might escalate for repeat offenders, but in-game arena observers and video reviewers will be instructed to report instances of theatrical flopping for potential punishment as part of postgame reports on officiating and other matters.

I just came to post this but Junkie is already on it...

One of the best moves that the NBA could of ever made...

Not sure how much this is going to stop the flopping but hopefully it cuts down on it some...

The next thing they need to do is go back to the no nonsense rule they kinda started last year where you complain it is a tech no matter what...

Varejao is going to have to move to a cheaper house. :slappy:

I like this. I wouldn't mind if they started giving guys technicals for flopping, too.

I agree. Hurting the team would be the best way to stop it.

Yep and I third this...The main thing they need to do is to find a way to stop it...If fining them limits the flopping then ok, but what about say a guy like Kobe, Lebron etc. that make more money...Or also will they play favorites and not fine stars vs. non-stars, or not fine players when they fall down against bigger guys when it looks more like a charge but was truly a flop vs. against a little guy...

These multi-millionare players don't are about fines. The only way to stop it is to punish the team (i. e. techical foul and/or ejection); then I'm sure the head coach will put an instant stop to any of his players flopping.

On the positive side, I guess that a good history of flopping in the NBA might contribute to a real good resume for future employment with the WWE.

i dunno. i still say two shots and the ball for both offensive and defensive flopping.

I hate flopping as much as the next guy, but the reason NBA players do it is because it works. It tricks the refs. I do not want the refs having to try and make this call at crunch time on the fly, let alone with a harsh enough penalty to swing the course of a game.

Let Manu look like a tool and rack up the fines. How about throwing in a 1 game suspension at some point (though something as hard to reach as the technical foul suspension).

Maybe they should worry about intentional fouls away from the ball. 2 shots and the ball with the team choosing their ft shooter like they do for tee's.

I think fining is pretty stupid. Where is the line between charging and flopping? So, if it's a big guy, he's flopping and a little guy it's charging. Tough call.
