Game Thread FIESTA BOWL: tOSU 21, Texas 24 (01-05-09)

I honestly don't know if Ohio State can hang with Texas. The shoe is on the other foot, with the freshman quarterback, from last time. They are an excellent football team. On the other hand, they have not faced a defense like ours. So, pick 'em.

Here is what I do know. The Buckeyes play better when they are not favored. Jim Tressel and his coaches will regain their reputation for big game coaching. I am optimistic.
LSU and USC disagree the buckeyes play better when not favore

Scout$--OSU Players Not Shying From Redemption Talk

...the beginning of the month-long, forced discussion of making up for the past few bowl games.

Blah.

:smash:

Glad I don't have a Scout$ account.

As far as o/u on TP-VY comparisons mentioned during the game, I'll take under. However, if he has a ridiculous game (100+ yards rushing, multiple passing TD's) I would take way, way, way over.

Those offenses have had running backs that can beat us...

I agree to disagree I dont think Florida or LSU had a really great back.....both those teams pretty much did what they wanted through the air and ground though because they controlled the line of scrimmage and spread out us out. While our D does a great job in the Big Ten the last couple of years we tend to give up big points against quality OOC opponents. This is pretty much the same defensive personnel we have had for the last two years and while I hope like hell it changes this game I wouldnt count on it. Lets hope i'm wrong or our offensive blows up big come Jan. 5.

If both our lines show up like they did against USC, it will be as ugly as that game.

The team at the end of the season is not even remotely the team taht went out west to play USC.

TX does not have a good running game - McCoy is probably the best all-around QB in the country, though. Contain him from moving the chains with his feet, and you cause them major problems.

For Mack Brown, the Vince Young shoe will be on the other foot, for once.

Yeah, a whole month of Terrelle Pryor/Vince Young comparisons! I can hardly wait. :sick1:

Can we just set the ground rules in this thread? If you make a Pryor/Young comparison in this thread, you will be dinged by the bourgeois elite that run this elitist site. Maybe add it to the little note above the quick reply box.

I don't want to hear it. You don't want to hear it. Terrelle himself said he doesn't want to hear it. Just let it be. They aren't similar, they will never be similar.

texas fans,

do you have recurring nightmares about the play where the kid dropped that floater for an int on the play or two before crabtree's big catch? or is everyone over it already? that play would eat me alive if it happened to us.

The dropped Int did sting for a while. Having said that, we should never have been in that situation. We played our worst football of the year the first half of that game. Bad playcalling, dropped passes by our wr's, Quan Cosby was injured on the first or 2nd play of the game, combined with playing in our 4th game of a killer stretch on the road in what was Tech's biggest game in their schools history. And it still took a last second miracle for them to win.

The kid that dropped the floater is going to make alot of big plays in the comming years. Our young secondary has improved each week. This should be a great game. Good Luck Buckeyes.

P.S. Last night I read over some of the threads of the last 2 Texas - tOSU games.... Wow. This should be fun.

This is going to be an interesting game. But I think the biggest key will be the mindset of the Longhorns. Do they come into the game feeling they have something to prove and come with the mindset to win by 30+ so they can create a discussion they should be the National Champs if Oklahoma wins? OR do they come with a mindset that they missed out on going to the National Title and while they say this game means something, it just doesn't.

While I can see them coming with a chip on their shoulders, we just won't know til we are in the middle of the game on how 18-20 year olds will react in this situation. If they pout internally for the next month can they really get excited for this game?

But about the game, I am terrified about Texas D-Line having their way in this game and giving our O-Line fits. While the Texas secondary can be thrown on, Pryor MUST get better in this area to be able to take advantage of them. Along with some young WRs stepping up and being ready to play.

Really... it will come down to this. Can the Ohio State offense score 30+ points in this game. While I have faith in our defense, you have to realize that Texas should at least score 20+ points in this game and our offense will have to keep us in this game.

I haven't watched any of Texas' games this year. How good is their D? In particular, their D-Line? Our O-Line has played pretty poorly at times, a lot of times, this year and honestly I think they are going to have to come together this next month and really play the game of their lives Jan 5th.

If Texas comes in thinking that they've already beaten us, but need to do so impressively, then they've already misunderestimated us (a common flaw among Texans) and they could be in real trouble. I really want the focus of the media to be about how many points Texas and USC are going to beat their inferior Big Ten opponents. Focusing on winning impressively can really hurt your chances of winning at all.
