Great years by football and both hoops teams this year! BUT...Am I the only Buckeye fan getting tired of, or rather used to, highly regarded Buckeye teams (regardless of sport) falling short in big games/ situations? How can we explain this? It happened this year to both men's and women's hoops (losing to lower seeds) and to men's hockey (pre-season top five, no playoffs). Certainly we're all familiar with the football teams woes vs. UM under Cooper. But even Woody and Earle had trouble with big games. Top five teams in '62 & '63 lost to unranked UCLA & USC respectively. 1969's #1 team lost to #12 UM. 1970, 74, 75, 79, 84, 93, 95, 98, 2000, just to name a few, all saw highly ranked Buckeye teams fall to lower, or un, ranked opponents, in many cases costing OSU national titles. Women's hoops in '93 lost the title game to a lower seed. Anyone have any thoughts on this phenomenon? Does it cheapen the success teams have during the rest of the year? Just curious if I was alone in this.
