FB Dionte' Johnson (Official Thread)

Dionte to Arizona...

Johnson feels he's in good hands with Arizona. The running backs coach who called him numerous times yesterday is Maurice Carthon, a former New York Giants teammate of Dionte's father, Pepper Johnson.

Dionte was looking forward to heading to Glendale, Ariz., for minicamp this weekend.

"I've got some unfinished business in that stadium," he said, referring to Ohio State's loss to Florida in January 2007.

He has a decent shot to make at least the practice squad. Red zone yards were hard to come by in AZ... we needed a bruiser. Drafted the kid out of Richmond, which Maurice Carthon gave "money back guarantee on". ...I think Carthon (position coach) being one of senior's old teammates can help.

Dionte' Johnson Has Something to Say
Guest Editorial
By Dionte' Johnson

I'm not going to say much today, maybe another day real soon, but not today. I just want everyone to know how I feel personally about the news of Coach Tressel's resignation (on Monday). To be honest, I have mixed emotions. There is no joy that will come out of a day like today, but when the news broke it did force me to remember nearly every moment I spent at The Ohio State University. I am not going to lie and pretend to have enjoyed every single moment at the university, but I would be remiss if I did not say that my 4 years at The Ohio State University, under the leadership of Jim Tressel, didn't play a significant roll in creating the man that you know today.

Did I feel as if I deserved more playing time? Of course. Did I wish I had another chance to score a touchdown in The Shoe? Yes. Do I regret my decision to play football at one of the greatest universities in the history of the world? Not a chance. There is no way that I would ask to be anywhere else. It is impossible to manage 105 young adult men, impossible. Not improbable, but impossible.

Shopping: Kingsrowe Gallery

Kingsrowe Gallery
1104 N. High St., Short North

Hours: 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Saturday; 12-5 p.m. Sunday.

The namesake of street wear clothing line Kingsrowe is a tiny street on Columbus? east side. On it, Dionte Johnson grew into the man who became an Ohio State football player, owner of the Short North sneaker store Sole Classics and designer of Kingsrowe?s confident clothing.

The brand is the cool side of Columbus pride, and, a year ahead of Johnson?s original schedule, is getting its own storefront. Kingsrowe Gallery opens this Saturday, Oct. 20, in the Short North.

Amid the T-shirts, snapbacks and sweaters, the shop?s decor has a preppy New England coastal town vibe. Old rowing oars are incorporated into the lighting and display fixtures and a giant red velvet throne beckons in the back.

The style is a nod to the imagery of the Kingsrowe name (royalty, rowing, you get it), but the d?cor also helps set the this-runs-deeper-than-you-think tone of a message Johnson hopes Kingsrowe Gallery spreads.

?There are many people who think [wearing street wear] is dressing down,? Johnson said. ?They don?t see the art behind socks, T-shirts, hoodies, but this is a culture that is about expressing yourself through clothing.?

Kingsrowe Gallery plans to become an incubator for fledgling Columbus street wear design lines. In the meantime, the store currently carries only men?s Kingsrowe clothing items. T-shirts are in the $30 range, hoodies around $60. New designs will come in each season (the current styles were inspired by a Native American-style print Johnson designed with a blocky version of the Kingsrowe fly insignia).

?I?m very excited about this place,? Johnson said. ?I hope people accept it and we can continue to grow the street wear presence in the Short North.?
