Favorite Jack Nicholson Roles?

Nicholson=Insane

Jack Nicholson is one of my favorite actors, but totally insane. Maybe the genius being one small step from insanity applies here.

I think The Shining is the best. The line in there "Heres Johnny" sums it all up. The look in his eyes is totally deranged.

But I like the movie where Helen Hunt becomes his love interest. He again plays a more than slightly off center madman in that movie too. Maybe that is his true character.

Five Easy Pieces... who hasn't felt like John Wayning a table the way he does in the Denny's scene? "Alright, give me the chicken salad on toast, now put the salad on the plate and hold the toast between your fucking knees..." or words to that affect.

Col. Nathan R. Jessup- "A Few Good Men"

One of my favorite roles of all time

Worst role ever.

Academy Awards history

Footprints and handprints of Jack Nicholson at Grauman's Chinese Theatre.

Nicholson has been nominated for an acting (lead or supporting) Academy Award in five different decades: 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, and 2000s. The only other actors who can say the same are Michael Caine and Paul Newman. With 12 nominations thus far (8 for Best Actor and 4 for Best Supporting Actor), Jack Nicholson is the most nominated male actor in Academy Awards history. With three Oscar wins, he also ties with Walter Brennan for the 2nd highest number of Oscar wins in acting categories (all of Brennan's wins were for Best Supporting Actor).

Arguably among the greatest actors ever.

I've gotta agree with this. He tends to play 'Jack Nicholson' in all his movies and they all seem too similar.

He actually did a great job in Carnal Knowledge. It was a movie that was early in his career so he didn't play the part as 'Jack Nicholson' but rather as an actor. Aw shit, now I sound like that fat fuck Siskel.

Same, same, John Wayne, Cary Grant, Jimmy Stewart and 95% of all actors, Dustin Hoffman and Rod Steiger being exceptions to the rule. Still, I love Jack's grumpy old man schtick.
