Unfortunately, a lactose intolerance dictates that Breyer's lactose free vanilla is my current favorite- it is good, especially if you mix it up like a shake with Kahlua or Starbucks coffee liquor.

However, the best I've had (when I could still eat it) was Whitey's ice cream in Moline, IL. It's a local place who made their own, and it was absolutely fantastic.

I agree that BR's Chocolate/Peanut Butter is great.

My favorite overall though is Blue Bell Ice Cream (main plant in Brenham, TX). Their Homemade Vanilla really rocks, as does their Banana Split flavor.

It's a piece of chocolate in raspberry ice cream. It's the chocolate ice cream I don't care for. And variations involving the actual chocolate ice cream, such as rocky road, double chocolate, triple chocolate, death-by-chocolate, dark chocolate, way-too-much-fucking-chocolate, chocolate brownie, etc.

Tough call....I could live with fudge swirled into vanilla ice cream, but would probably pass on vanilla ice cream with chocolate ice cream swirled in.
