Trees. I do pretty well at avoiding water. I suck at hitting out of the sand, but I can somehow stay out of the sand pretty well, usually. But trees - those bitches jump out from no where to knock my ball down. But it's ok. I love the sound of a golf ball heading straight for a tree, missing EVERY SINGLE LEAF on the way into the tree, then whacking a good-thick branch dead-center so that it bounces straight back, again missing EVERY SINGLE LEAF, and coming back to stop pretty damn close to where I'm standing.
I'm with Zurp on this one. There's nothing like the sound of getting good wood on the ball.......several seconds after your shot has sailed into an ocean of oak and maple trees.

Golf In The UK (1940)
This is good......
British Golf Rules in 1940 And, you thought you were a tough weather golfer. The notice below was posted adjusting rules at a golf club in Britain in 1940. You have to admit --- these guys really had to like the game to play!
German aircraft from Norway would fly on missions to attack northern England .. Because of the icy weather conditions, the barrels of their guns had a small dab of wax in the muzzle to protect them from clogging with ice. In addition to attacking industrial or other targets close to golf courses, as they crossed the coast, they would clear their guns by firing a few rounds at the golf courses. Golfers were urged to take cover.

This is purely wonderful -- and says more than anything else I have ever seen about why Hitler lost the Battle of Britain!

That is not good.. (Facebook)
According to this Facebook post, Top of the Rock Golf Course in Hollister, Missouri is falling into the abyss. Literally.

The post says that the sink hole is 100 feet deep and 100 yards long. Good if you're trying to putt into it. Bad if you're trying to play through it.

Massive sinkhole opens up in the middle of a golf course

An updated visual on the sink hole that opened up earlier today at Big Cedar Lodge's Top of the Rock in Hollister, MO. Host of Bass Pro Shop's Legends of Golf, the course and the range are still open, according to a course spokesperson. The hole consumed a portion of the range, which was designed by Arnold Palmer. I was told, given the topography, sink holes in the Ozarks are not uncommon. Referred to as a "geological event," no one was hurt and experts are on site assessing the situation. This course hosts the Bass Pro Shops Legends of Golf on the Champions Tour every year, so they're probably already hard at work figuring out how to fix this.
