I used to love playing Pictionary with my grandmother. She'd draw a circle or a square and then just keep pointing at it with the pencil more and more agitatedly. There's really no way to guess something like that. 
She could actually draw quite well, but the pressure of competition seemed to get to her.
We do best at silly games like Uno where you can gang up on people. Hilarious stuff.

If it's nasty out, Euchre or Monopoly. If it's a warm weather gathering, Badminton, Horseshoes or Cornhole, Basketball (H-O-R-S-E or Around-the-World).

Actually played Balderdash tonight. I bought my little cousin the new Clue game out and played that. Kinda fun , but you only have to figure out the person and the place not the weapon, that was weak. Boggle is also a family favorite. Taboo is fun too, Hell we play all kinds of games. When the extended families get together for the holidays, which didn't happen this year, we play pictionary making up our own things to draw. My family being known for putting down multiple cases of wine a night things get pretty nasty. I will never forget the horror of being 8 years old and learning the definition of smegma.

Apples to Apples. It's fun no matter how many are playing but the more the merrier. And you can quit whenever you like. It's the perfect group game.
I have always been a big Clue player, but there are several in our family that just don't have the analytical reasoning thing down.
I also used to love Celebrity Taboo, but my wife and I as a team would always kick everyone's rear-end so they stopped playing with us.

You'll have nothing and like it
We usually have a pretty good time playing Balderdash, but it always ends up with people just making up stupid definitions in the area of Sexual innuendo, or gross out just to see who will laugh the most. Nobody tries to win, just make someone at the table spit their drinks out.

Euchre or Trivial Pursuit...both end up with violent results though so they must be played in moderation.
