Lions receiver gets year supply of DiGiorno after carryout pizza car crash
When Nate Burleson broke his arm in a one-car accident last month, he blamed it on
a carryout pizza that slid onto the floor of his car. To many, it sounded like another far-fetched excuse from an athlete.
But just because a story is bizarre doesn’t mean it’s not true. Police confirmed that after watching
Monday Night Football in Week 3, the Detroit Lions wide receiver was soberly driving home with two pizzas he had picked up from a local restaurant. When one slipped,
Burleson reached over to grab it and, according to Michigan State Police Lt. Michael Shaw, “overcorrected and hit the median wall.”
Burleson broke his arm in the crash and is rehabbing in hopes of returning to the field soon. Thanks to a new gift from the frozen pizza mavens at DiGiorno, he won’t have to worry about any pizza-related setbacks.
The company sent Burleson a personal pizza cutter and a year’s supply worth of its frozen pizzas, thus ensuring the only danger he’ll face is burning the roof of his mouth by recklessly eating a pizza just out of the oven. He took an Instagram of his gift and thanked the company for their generosity.
