Re: Lets face the music folks...Reply Yes but we can't just stop there....this "football culture" that caused all of this exists at every football factory across the nation, all of which are coached by men with the same power and prestige that Paterno enjoyed at PSU. All of which have cult-like fan-bases that worship the ground the players walk on just like at PSU. The NCAA needs to step in and scale back all of these programs to assure this kind of thing never happens to anyone in the future. Yea I know..."but this didn't happen at other schools it happened at Penn St" Yes but according the the Freh report and all of the "experts" this football culture that exists at these powers are the breeding ground for this type of behavior (covering up crimes among other things) so eliminate the problem at the source.

Thing is, from a fan standpoint, he is correct to an extent...there are rabid fanbases for all major programs. The problem is that the entire University power structure is not supposed to fall into the same trap as the fanbase, which is the distinct difference. And even fans know the difference at other places...as a perfect example, look at the derision Gee faced for his stupid "I just hope he doesn't fire me" comment. This board and OSU fans in general were appalled at the message that sent, in regards to both the status of the football coach and also the misplaced priorities of the President...even if it was meant in jest...and what it did to the already sliding reputation of the program in the public eye. And that of course is a complete throwaway compared to what we have going on here. Fans of OSU have called for the removal of Gene Smith and even Gee in some eyes for the botched way the Tressel thing was handled...the response to something like this would not have been to turn a blind eye like it was there.

No problem. I say death penalty for any school caught enabling a serial pedophile to avoid scandal for the football culture. When they catch the next one, hammer the shit out of them.

In the meantime, seeing as their is only one offender we know of.........

Fuck this guy. Seriously. Did Tressel throw Gordon Gee and GS out of his house when they came to fire him? Did Woody throw Hugh Hindman out of the hotel the morning after the Gator Bowl?

Although, I am relishing the ped aggy fanbase suddenly playing the "we're just like everyone else" card.

In the end Wexner and Gee called the shots. Make no mistake. JT (Who I love) was becoming a major distraction to the OSU brand. It hurt bad but was the right call. JT took his lumps and moved on. JoePa will be taking lumps for many years as his family flails away for his "Legacy".

Wrong.

All comparisons are off limits until some other school fosters a similar cult of personality that allows an entire community to permit and rationalize a sex predator in their midst.

Congratulations Penn State. You have finally achieved the exceptionalism that you had always ascribed to yourself.

Banning or scaling back football at other schools over this is like banning vacuum cleaners because some weirdo couldn't stop himself from putting his dick in one.

I agree to an extent as well. These cultures do breed danger. But none is comparable to PSU. What is ironic is that until just this week this same fan base has been going on and on about how Happy Valley would be nothing but a corn field if it weren't for Joe Paterno. He built the football program. He built the academics. He built the library on weekends between spring practice and the fall. HE WAS.... PENN STATE.

But now he is just a hapless bureaucrat caught in the crossfire. A victim - or whatever they call it.

I'm a Pitt fan

and this is my first post here. I just had to comment on this poll. Personally, I've gotta go with Labrano; I live in Central PA (unfortunately), and saw the five minute ad this clown took out on a local station. Wow. Messed up stuff. Just be glad you don't have to live with these people.
