Fantastic Four - Silver Surfer

Looks pretty good, I saw the first one on HBO way after everyone proclaimed it to be the worst movie of all time and didn't think it was actually that bad, so hopefully this one can be better!

One thing, though, I never followed the fantastic four as much as the X-Men when I was a kid, but I never knew the Silver Surfer was a bad guy... was he, or is the trailer just deceiving?

I haven't seen the trailer, but I used to have a huge comic book about when he met the F4. The Silver Surfer was a bit if a tweener. I think he originally was the servant/slave of Galactus (a powerful, giant bad guy that consumed planets for their energy). The Surfer didn't really like working for him, and wanted to be free. I believe he helped the Fantastic 4 to beat Galactus, but then went on to be a bit of a rogue player, essentially doing what he thought to be best for himself, as opposed to always being a good or bad guy.

Mark Frost

I have read several of Mark Frosts books.(one of the writers for this)

Not a bad author. Former Star Trek the Next Generation writer, has a couple of books about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (fiction) where he meets the inspiration for Holmes. (The list of 7 and the 6 Messiahs)

Also has written two golf books. The Greatest Game Ever Played. (about an one of the early opens where Frances Ouimet defeats Harry Vardon- made into a Disney movie) and a book about Bobby Jones.

As an author he is fairly lightweight. Think one step below the Dan Brown books.

just mho

He is introduced into the Marvel Universe as a bad guy, as a very powerful herald for Galactus. He is more powerful than all four of the FF combined, and he nearly beats them several times. Basically his job was to find worlds for his master to devour / drain. We find out later that the whole reason for his being is because his world was to be devoured. He was pretty much an ordinary guy, but went up in a space ship to defend his world, and more importantly, his girl friend / fiance. Galactus somehow noticed this and spared his world in return for the Silver Surfer becoming his herald. All of the Surfer's powers are endowed by Galactus. The Surfer did all this with the idea that he could prevent / steer Galactus away from inhabited worlds, and keep what nearly happened to his planet from happening to others.
