Now for something completely different: I've been noticing for awhile that we have a helluva sophomore class moving through on defense right now (RS included):

Jamario O'Neal
Nick Patterson (RS)
Malcolm Jenkins

James Laurinaitis
Marcus Freeman (RS)

Vernon Gholston (RS)
Lawrence Wilson
Alex Barrow (RS)

they're going to be good this year with most of them starting or getting significant playing time, but can you imagine in the next few years how good they will be, especially if they all stay together 'til their senior year. Scary good, especially with some of the young guys coming up too (Rose, Homan ect.)

I meant that when Homan gets healthy you would have to think that he would take Kerrs spot. Many thought Kerr was too slow for the Mike, let alone the Will.

Ain't happening. First, other than you, I don't recall very many saying he was too slow for MLB. Second, you really think that a true freshman will unseat a 5th year senior who is paying his own way just to be a Buckeye and who also led all Big Ten freshmen in tackles when he was a freshman?

I don't know why you have such a love-fest for Homan and such apparent disdain for Kerr but it's getting old.

I find Lauranitis moving inside and Kerr moving out odd as well. Just from what I've seen, it looks like Little Animal is the more athletic player. But then again the coaches have seen a bit more than me:biggrin: . Not to mention that Little Animal has got massive this year. I think that Homan is going to get some reps no matter who is in front of him just based on talent. I don't know if he ends up starting but I do think he gets some serious PT, similar to Hawk's role in '02.

actually, I don't remember many stating that Kerr's speed was good. He didn't seem to get to the outside very well during the jersey scrimmage.

As for the 'aint happening', you said the same thing about JL at the mike.

I do find the Kerr move peculiar... and think it seems a lot more possible for Homan to beat him at the Will than the Mike.

Thank you...VERY well said.

Man I'm tired of the fan-boy man crush that comes with every talented frosh. Sheesh, you'd think from reading these things that we have no current talent on the team. Personally, I'm very glad to have Kerr on the team.

Nesw flash, Mister Football, these moves aren't set in stone yet...fall practices have just started and there have already been more than one changes to the depth chart and positions. 50,000 vCash says Laurinaitius doesn't stay at the Mike for the season opener...willing to put your vCash where your shutter finger is?

I never said it was set in stone, I was responding to your newly updated absolute about what won't be happening. I would agree the depth chart doesn't seem stable. Based on Homan's omission from the depth chart (likely due to injury),and the less-than-glowing reports about the LBs, I'm not sure what to think.

Back in july, I predicted the 3 LBs would eventually be Homan, Laurinaitis and Freeman (at least by mid-season). If Homan were healthy, I'd probably take you up on the bet to keep James inside. Since he is not, I could see JK moving back if JL is not effective.

It's pretty hard for either of us to be sure on this subject. We've seen little of Kerr at MLB, and none of Laurinaitis. I'll post my thoughts on the subject after watching the scrimmage on monday.

I see Homan getting plenty of reps and will not be surprised if he starts eventually. Moeller IMO is too small right now; almost "tiny" compared to the others. Bottom line we have the luxury to choose from more than a handful of capable guys.

The coaches will sort it out in due time!

hmm... the Mike makes all the calls, right? could it be that Lil Animal simply has a better grrasp of the scheme than the other guys? (it doesn't really make sense to me, since Kerr's been in the system for 3+ years now, but...)

as someone else stated, i doubt this is the opening day lineup, but the news is rather unsettling...

Then why search for and dig up a post I made just to start shit? I'm basing my opinion on the fact that Kerr has been around for a long time now and has talent, that JT always--always--gives his seniors the benefit of the doubt, and that Laurinaitis is a perfect fit for SAM and has two full games (very high-visibility games at that) experience there. And I feel strongly enough in it that I think it's a certainty, despites the staff's shuffling of personnel. So, if you're gonna make a "Nyah, nyah, told you so!" post, be prepared for the backlash when they move Kerr and Laurinaitis back to MIKE and SAM respectively.
