Hallowed Hall: Former Buckeye's lasting legacy after fateful battle with cancer
It's been a year since a beloved Buckeye, coach, and teacher died after a bout with cancer at just 44, but Steve Hall's legacy will forever remain in the two places he called home.
Hall, who spent 18 years as a math teacher and coach in the Grandview Heights School District, had his jersey retired by his high school alma mater Wayne Trace, approximately 30 miles east of Fort Wayne, near the Indiana border. The ceremony, which marked the first ever meeting between his high school in northwest Ohio and his adopted one in central Ohio, took place on February 13. Hall passed on February 17, 2015, eight months after he was diagnosed with colon cancer.
"He's the kind of guy you think about every day," said Ray Corbett, the Grandview Heights boys varsity basketball head coach who Hall assisted for six years.
