His highlight videos on YouTube are some of the best you'll see. Especially for a high school sophomore. Sick baller. Sick sick baller.

Those are not even high school sophomore highlights. That his AAU team and since he had the knee injury in football last year he did not play basketball in high school as a sophomore or this summer.

Yes folks that is AAU play the sumner after his freshman year.

It is worth adding also that prior to his injury most services had him as a top 5 player in his class. He has fallen a bit due to his knee injury and not playing. If he recovers well Mickey will be a 5-star player once again.

Welcome to the Buckeye Family, Mickey!!

Still in a little shock about this one. Figured his recruitment was going to be long, drawn-out, and come down to the blue bloods. The fact that he's committed so early sets up well for recruiting for that class, and possibly helping finish the 2014 class... especially if he can be as active a recruiter as D'Angelo has been for us. Mickey's a perfect fit for what we're trying to do and is going to be such a weapon. Everyone in the B1G is going to hate playing against him.

Boy do I hope Mickey has Myles Turner on speed dial. What a pickup this is - under the radar right now because of Mickey's injury and inability to play last season, but I think once he starts showing off his game again, OSU's name will be at the forefront in regards to national basketball recruiting. Time for Kennard/Bragg/Richardson/Coleman/etc. to join the part in Columbus!

On another note, at what point does Dodds and the rest of the Texas administration say enough is enough with Rick Barnes? The basketball talent in the state the past few years has been unbelievable, and these elite recruits aren't even giving the Longhorns serious consideration. His recruiting is poor, and his coaching is even worse. I shudder to think what a real coach would do in Austin.

Barnes definitely has had much less success in recent years, although he had some top recruits - particularly on that 2011 team where they didn't even make the Sweet 16 with like 3 first round picks. But to be sure, that UT-UA game was an extraordinarily challenging matchup in the Round of 32. But consider this: UT's overall historical win % is 63%, while Barnes has won 70% of his games there (and almost 69% of his Big 12 games).

But I can see Barnes being on the hot seat - the "what have you done for me lately" crowd no doubt is vocal in support of him being ousted sooner or later. I guess we should be thankful UT is down somewhat in both FB and BKB so the Mitchells aren't attracted to them.

Back to Mitchell, I just watched six highlight videos of him on YouTube, and the one thing that stood out that didn't before when I watched maybe one at a time is Mickey looked like a bulldozer out there. Not a lot of players can initiate and finish through contact, but Mitchell does it fairly well. He knows how to get into the body of the defender and get his shot off, that's an underrated skill because a lot of finesse players try to avoid the contact and take extraordinarily difficult shots as a result. I'd much rather have a guy who's going to be physical and take it into the defender than a guy who shies away from contact.

Five-star splash: Mickey Mitchell headed to Ohio State
BY Kevin Hageland, [email protected]

Less than a month ago, junior Mickey Mitchell transferred to Plano West to be closer to his younger brother McKinley.

That brotherly love apparently goes across the spectrum as Mickey verbally committed to play basketball for Ohio State on Thursday while visiting older brother Mike, who is a freshman on the Buckeyes football team.

"Those two are really close," said Ken Mitchell, Mickey and Mike's father. "Mickey was just going up there for a visit and I don't think he realized just how big that legend of Ohio State is ... though obviously he realized it once he got there."

Mickey called his parents from campus with the news.

"He wasn't going up there to commit," Mr. Mitchell said. "But when he called us, we asked if he was positive and he said, 'I'm positive.' (Ohio State head coach) Thad Matta and his coaches are a great staff and Mickey is his own man, so we respect his ability to make these decisions and we told him congratulations."

Mickey has been a prized recruit for some time.

The 6-foot-7, 245-pounder has won multiple AAU National Titles with the Texas Titans and had 21 Division I offers, some for basketball and football, by the time he was a freshman. A consensus top-5 recruit in his class that season, Mitchell averaged 10.1 points and 3.7 assists starting for a Prestonwood Christian Academy squad that won the TAPPS 5A State Championship.

"Mickey's court vision, his court sense, his basketball IQ are all unbelievable," said Anthony Morgan, West head coach.

Mickey was no slouch on the football field either, throwing for 1,855 yards and 21 touchdowns while rushing for 773 yards and 11 touchdowns with the Lions as a sophomore in 2012 before tearing his ACL in November against Bishop Lynch.

Mickey underwent surgery Nov. 30.

"I'm feeling a lot better," Mickey said. "The main thing right now is to get my conditioning back up."
