Anthony Gill, a 6-8, 235-pound power forward from Charlotte, N.C., started 26 games for South Carolina as a freshman last season and averaged 7.6 points and 4.7 rebounds. He had 11 points and four rebounds in the second half of the Gamecocks' loss to Ohio State in December after playing only two minutes in the first half because of foul trouble.

He has visited Virginia and is scheduled to visit Ohio State this weekend, which could be an enticement with Buckeye Nation out in droves for the spring football game in Ohio Stadium.

North Carolina, Wake Forest and Virginia Tech also have shown interest, but Gill's father told The Daily Progress of Charlottesville, Va., that, for now, his son intends to choose between the Cavaliers and Buckeyes after his weekend visit.

Seems to play the same position as Hood. So will it be who transfers first. Just don't see us taking both of them with only one guy graduating next year and Loving already committed. I think we will need some backcourt recruits even if the kid from Findlay Prep commits to us this year.

Hood is more of a wing... while Gill is an in the paint 4. They would take both in a heart beat, along with Della Valle.

Anthony Gill, a potential transfer out of South Carolina, will visit Virginia on Friday.

Anthony Gill has officially scared the bejesus out of Wahoo Nation.

On Tuesday, the 6-foot-8 forward who Virginia is trying to bring in as a transfer, told The Daily Progress that he has been in contact with North Carolina coach Roy Williams.

Gill said Williams called him for the first time on Monday night and told him to let him know by Tuesday if they had a chance to get him.

But as of Tuesday evening, there was no word on what Gill had decided.

?It may hit me in the next couple minutes, next couple of hours, I don?t know,? said Gill, earlier in the day.

Virginia was the first school to make contact with Gill, doing so on April 6. Gill rewarded UVa by making it his first visit. The former South Carolina player was in Charlottesville this past weekend.

?The campus was just amazing and just the academics that they have to offer for me, the coaching staff is great, the players are great,? said Gill, when asked for his impressions. ?I like all the players. I fit in well with them. They?re good guys.?

But Gill, who grew up in Charlotte, was clearly flattered to hear from Williams.

?It was definitely cool,? he said. ?Just knowing the history that North Carolina has and what he?s done for the state of North Carolina ? and I?m from North Carolina ? so I definitely was in awe of him.?

Regardless of whether Gill lets UNC jump into his recruitment, he is planning on visiting Ohio State this weekend.

?All I know about them really is that they have a great basketball team, great coaches and a great campus,? Gill said. ?I just want to get to know them and get to know the players, and see what they have to offer me.?
