Explanation from Steve Snapp on allowing the scUM fight song to be sung on Saturday

Okay - let's try to restore some sanity here:

1) This incident happened a week ago - get over it already!

2) Steve Snapp has to deal with ESPN - that's part of his job. He can't just throw them off campus, because ESPN has a contract to broadcast Buckeye games. Without money from places like ESPN, there is no college football, at least not as we know it. Get it?

3) What happened had absolutely no effect on last week's game, nor will it have any effect on any game in the future. Why obsess about this?

4) Finally, we at BP like to provide an atmosphere which fosters open and honest discussion about topics (even ridiculous ones like this). However, one of our few rules is that we do not allow bashing of Buckeyes, and that includes players, coaches, and administrators like Steve Snapp. If you personally attack a Buckeye, you will get a warning. Already, I have had to warn three people on this thread - one received a 10-pointer, and two received the heavy-duty 75-point "bashing" alert. Please cool off and be civil, or you will rack up warning points until eventually you become banned.

point of order: as far as i know, E!spn does not pay Ohio State to broadcast games... E!spn makes money off of the advertisers... if any side of the relationship has a greater benefit, it is the broadcast side, which merely films the actions that are taking place on the field of play...

once again, instead of reporting what is happening in the world of sports, E!spn is making the news, which i refuse to condone... also, while E!spn may have a contract to broadcast certain Big Ten football games, they do NOT have a contract in place to broadcast the Gameday Show...

i think that it is high time for the Big Ten to break the E!spn deal, and make the much needed move to Fox... this crap has gone on long enough...

ESPN has a contract to broadcast all Big Ten conference games. And yes, they do pay for that privilege - they recoup that payment (and then some) from advertising revenues.

Yeah, pretty much - unless you have some way to effectuate a positive change. Pissing in the wind really doesn't get much accomplished.

Letting the administration know of one's displeasure with a policy(respectfully of course) may be pissing in the wind due to apathy on their part but its the right thing to do none the less.

PS If anyone still thinks ESPN doesn't have it in for OSU go look at the programming schedule for ESPN Classic tonight. I can see the need to rebroadcast the Texas game as an instant classic but wtf is the need for the 77 Oklahoma game before that? They never miss a chance to paint us in a bad light or make it hard for a Buckeye fan to watch period.

Do what you feel is right - my point is, whatever you do (not you personally, Jax, you're not part of the problem that I was addressing), do it with respect and class, and don't let ESPN "win" by lashing out in the exact manner that they intended before they ran the piece in the first place.

Oh yeah, one final point - this is exactly the reaction that ESPN was trying to get out of Buckeye fans - aren't you glad to know that you're letting them win?
WE're letting them win? what choice do we, the fans, have in this situation? the only person who could have stopped this slap was Steve Snapp, and he allowed it... E!spn did not need to show Desmond and Nick singing that song-- they already had their bit about in the can, and they showed the scUM team singing it, so they didn't NEED to have Nick and Desmond sing it... and it wasn't a mater of filling time on the show, as it didn't last that long. the Gameday Gang could have EASILY filled that 20 seconds or so... and don't give me that crap about building the hype for the ND-scUm tilt- that's a weak explanation at best. singing scUM's fight song atop OUR stadium does nothing to build that game... maybe they could have talked about the ND-scUM game instead? sorry, i'm not buying it... this was a deliberate, and well thought out slap in the face, which incomprehensibly was allowed to happen, and by tOSU administration no less... Steve Snapp says "what was i supposed to do?" i have an answer, Steve: how about you say 'FUCK YOU.' that's what i would have said in that situation.

other than fire bombing (Tongue In Cheek) the Bristol studios, what can we do to stop these attacks? stop watching? i don't really watch E!spn, well other than PTI, except for the actual games... so, i ask you, since you apparantly have all the answers here, WHAT DOES IT TAKE TO GET THIS SHIT TO STOP?

are we just supposed to ignore it? turn the other cheek? correct me if i'm wrong, but we already DID turn the other cheek, and they slapped that one too... what else should we offer? the original cheek again? or is it time to hit them back?

fuck that. it's time to make those fuckers pay.

well, considering the fact that i have no choice but to take it, what difference does it make how i take it? and what exactly are you saying about me? please be clear, so i do not infer it as being personal.

i guess i'm not like you... to me, the idea of just letting it roll off, and saying, 'ah fuck it, they're not gonna get to me' is highly distasteful... so i get on here and rant a bit...

Hey, cool, rant away. I don't know you personally, so I can't comment, other than to say that you seem to be overreacting a bit to a very minor displeasure.

What would make me happy is if they re-broadcast the tOSU victory in Norman, Oklahoma ... if for no other reason than the selfish one that I darned well need a good copy of that game :tongue2:
