Damn, I remember watching him a lot...played for the Sonics, too, I think, when they went to the finals in the 70's didn't he?

Former NBA star Dennis Johnson dies at 52

AUSTIN, Texas --Dennis Johnson, the star NBA guard who was part of three championship teams and combined with Larry Bird in one of the great postseason plays, died Thursday after collapsing at the end of practice. He was 52.

Hate to hear that, he was always one of my favorites. RIP Dennis, my best wishes go out to the family. Alot of former players were close too, best to all.

He was a Sonic great
I remember well watching him, in great Sonic performances and awful ones. My parents had season tickets back in '77 to '80. Dennis was part of perhaps the best trio of guards the Sonics have ever had (for those of you not in the know, the other two were "Downtown" Freddie Brown, and Gus Williams aka "The Wizard"). Unfortunately perhaps his most famous, or infamous performance, was his 0-14 outing against the Washington Bullets in Game 7 of the 1978 NBA Finals. But if memory serves he more than made up for it in the 1979 Finals when the Sonics beat the Bullets 4-1, to win as yet, their only NBA Title.

Although he won the MVP in the '79 finals for Seattle, he was an underrated player. Being a Celtic hater, I was very ticked when Boston acquired him, realizing that he was the piece they needed to match up with the Lakers.
Boston had won a title without him in '81, but that was the year Houston nailed the Lakers in a short playoff series.
