Ever been a victim of fraud?

I almost was. I got a call from the bank yesterday asking about a suspicious check they received that someone was trying to cash. It was a forgery. Someone had gotten a hold of one of my account numbers and made a counterfeit check and was trying to get 3 grand. I had to go yesterday to close the account and start a new one. When I saw a copy of the check I freaked because they had forged my signature but it was how I used to sign my names years ago when I used to write my full name, now I only use my first and middle initial. The signature had to be more than 15 years old. I have no clue how they got it.

Yes and not that long ago. Someone got enough information to order a debit card against my back account and drained it. They actually had to have ripped stuff including the sent bank card off from my mailbox. I happened to be out of town when they did the draining. Luckily we got are funds back.

This led me to changing the requirements for obtaining a bank card with the bank(s) and in this case eliminating them on this account as I don't need one.

About 4 years ago - some little shit at a drive-through had decided to copy
My debit card numbers after he swiped my card. Obviously I had the card the entire time. Racked up roughly 2k in charges, while buying shit online or over the phone including a $100 pizza order.

Long and short - cops checked the cameras of the individual entering multiple locations to pick up stuff bought with my card. Signed for it, the same person every time.

Couldn't prosecute - not enough evidence.

Cops couldn't tell me the suspects name, otherwise I would have just beaten
The confession out of them. Lesson learned - use your credit card or cash for things like that and watch your accounts/assets like a hawk.

Recently went out to dinner and had my Visa rejected. Odd, I have never carried a balance, let alone maxed it out. Turns out some juggalo ordered $1200 worth of prepaid phones from Walmart.com with my number. It was over two thousand miles away, so they suspended my account due to the suspicious nature of the charges.

Visa forgave the charges and issued me a new number later that week. Moral of the story, always have a backup card, unless you're one of those cash only guys.

This. I've had someone try to use my CC in 2 different occasions (once over in Europe, another down south).

I've gotten into a habit of checking my account 2-3 times a day. It also helps me keep track if purchases, returns, etc. It is probably over the top, but whatever

I don't think that's excessive. I check my cc app once a week. 90% of my purchases go through that one card, so it works for me. Cash is only for small business purchases, under $50, and private transactions.

Had someone break my paypal account. The guy purchased some sporting goods / equipment and had it shipped to his house. It was in the Tampa area. I called the police down there and explained what was going on. The told me to let the shipment go through... They were there to help him with the boxes after he signed for it all.

I have credit cards with two different banks and a separate checking account for online purchases. A couple of years ago my wife lost our credit cards and debit card in London the night before we left, we had to cancel them. That was a fucking pain in the ass.

Sounds like it. My cc info is actually written down and in Crump's sister's safe so that I can call and ask for it.
