Netherlands played a beautiful first 20 minutes with many opportunities. France looked like the better team the last 25 minutes of the half, they were disrupting many Netherland attacks and creating a lot of chances on goal.

On the first goal- while the defender did a poor job of tracking the ball. I have to think that the keeper could have done better to come off his line. The ball was drove in just about 3 or 4 yards off the goal and he stayed on his line. It was a very dangerous ball, well played, that I think a keeper should attack and punch out.

Netherlands 2
France 0

in 60th minute. France had been dominating the game too. The far post defender lost sight of his man and sunk too much into the middle of the pitch leaving the far post wide open.

lol and Van Der Sar just volleyball "spiked the ball" hahahaha

pile it on, the Dutch look great in their first 2 games of Euro 2008.

4-1

Rinus Michels would've been proud of this performance by the Dutch so far! He masterminded "TOTAL FOOTBALL", and Johan Cruyff et. al. executed it in the 70s.

Are we seeing its resurgence? IMO they are the outright favorites after this demolition job. Van Basten has done an outstanding job!

Bookmakers odds after today's games......

Holland 7/2
Spain 7/2
Portugal 9/2
Germany 5/1
Croatia 7/1

That goal by Robben looked impossible. All you can do as a fan is admire it.

Like has already been said in this thread, it's good that it seems like spirited, attacking football is finding success in this tournament. Give me a semifinal round that includes the Netherlands, Spain & Portugal, and I'll be happy.

That Robben goal was from the acutest of angles. If you look at the replay, even Arjen was stunned that the ball ended up in the back of the net.

I saw bits & pieces of the Netherlands-France match as it happened, but have just now sat down to watch it in its entirety on the DVR.

Obviously, with a goal apiece, the subbing in Van Persie and Robben were strokes of genius. It summarizes pretty well the theme so far of attacking football being rewarded. Even though the Dutch were up 1-0, France were controlling the play and really should have at least scored an equalizer early in the second half. The Dutch manager responded not by retreating, but by taking the game to the French.

I am of the school of thought that the best way to preserve the lead is to deny opportunities for the opponent by controlling possession through a steady and credible attack. I think too often teams are content to sit back and hope to withstand the barrage.

1-1 Spain and Sweden at halftime.

Questionable no call in the box at the end of the first half. I personally think it should have been a PK, he leveled a guy that had position on the ball. It appeared the guy didn't even go for the ball.

Russia up 1 - 0 on Greece at half. Greece's keeper went running parallel along the end line and a guy kicked it over his head to his teammate at the 6 yard box for an easy goal. I don't know what the heck that keep was thinking.

cant believe David Villa snatched up 3 points 2 minutes into stoppage time. The defender was simply clearing the ball as it was almost going out of bounds and ended up sending in a perfect long ball which Villa brought down with a slight touch off the bounce right in front of the defender only to bury it home low and inside the right post. Spain dominated the game early and the Torres goal only made them play better but Ibrahimovic was keeping the Swedes in it and netted his 2nd of the tournament to even things up going into the half. He was subbed out at the start of the 2nd half and the Swedes never really challenged offensively after that and started to play the game with a defensive mindset which worked great until David Villa stole the game 2 minutes into stoppage time.

Game One: Turkey vs. Czech Rep.
I think this will be the better game of the two games today. The teams are pretty even. They both have 1 W and 1 L in the group. Look for this game to be very intense as the winner moves on.

Game Two: Portugal vs. Swiss
This isn't going to much of a game. Portugal sitting on top of Group A and the Swiss are at the bottom. I don't see Portugal playing their stars, or if they do they won't play the whole match. If you want to see a good match watch the earlier game
