I'm in. At least until I'm required to be somewhere at a specific somewhen, at which point I will apparently invent an excuse worthy of applause in order to fail to show up, and thereby live forever in infamy.

Why don't we just do this in person for locals at the Buttocks place? It's much easier to invent an excuse for physically being someplace than it is for only being at an internet site.

ah yes, the master of excuses.....

Coincidently, there's an open tournament at Yahoo with registration opening in less than an hour. If anyone wants to play and get an idea how their tourneys work, that would be great.

How Yahoo! Tournaments Work Automatic Pairing and Reporting
In a Single Elimination Tournament, all of the pairing and the win/loss are automatically reported. If you win a game, you are automatically seeded to the next round to play against the next opponent. If there are openings in the tournament brackets, certain players will receive a "bye," meaning they have no game in that round.

* Please check back to this page to view the latest standings/brackets.*

Round Intervals
The next round begins when all games are completed or when the maximum round time has expired. When the round time expires and there are unfinished games the winner from those games will be the player who had used the least amount of time. Most games have a 15 minute maximum round length. Exceptions are Chess and Pool which are 20 minutes, and Go, Literati, and Backgammon which are 30 minutes.

Automatic Tables Invite
In the start of a new round, players will be automatically invited to the proper table with a message that says, "You have a scheduled game at table X. Would you like to join?" Clicking on "Yes" will automatically sit you in the table with your scheduled opponent. Only games played in these invited tables will be reported to the standings system. Once a game is over, you should exit that table and wait for a new table invite in the next round

* We recommend that you do not Create Tables before the automatic table invite as there is a chance that you might miss the invite and thus lose the round.*

Forcing Forfeits
If your opponent is a no-show, you can force a forfeit on your opponent. You will automatically win and advance to the next round after the game time expires. In order to force a forfeit, make sure it is your opponent's turn and wait 3-5 minutes.

Tournament Prizes
Trophies that can be seen in the player's profile page are awarded to the winners of Official Yahoo! Tournaments.

For additional Tournament information, please refer to our Help Page

Here's the response from Yahoo! Games.

Not sure where to look next, unless we have a bunch of ATT and SBCglobal subscribers around. If anyone has new information later on, bump this thread and we'll pick up the project again.

Hello Deety,

Thank you for writing to Yahoo! Games.

Unfortunately, for private tourneys all members need to be All Stars
members.

However, if you can get your people organized into different rooms, you
can make private rooms to play in. With 15,00 members this can be quite
the daunting task!

Something else that may help is if any of your members have an SBCglobal
or ATT account for internet access, they already have All Stars as part
of our partnerships with these companies!

That should help absorb some of the potential issues for you!

Let me know if you have any further questions!

Thank you again for contacting Yahoo! Games.

Regards,

Draeden
