ESPN's Training Days- The Ohio State University

On a side note, if you want to boycott their online site, go ahead. All online content is monitored. Yet television still uses surveys, and boycotting any tv if you are not in a survey (which is essentially what Nielsen is) is sort of pointless.

I am agreeing with you. TV viewership means nothing. But hitting the links for their online site, generates revenue. And they are still the predominant source (unfortunately) for sports information. NBC/CBS/FOX needs someone to step up and challenge that crap channel. Then we might see some unbiased reporting. Until then, we get Joe Schad and other morons reporting crap.

I too was under the impression that they got ratings via the satelite dishes.. I didnt even know people still did nielson ratings anymore. Are we certain about this or are you hypothesising?
How is x million Super Bowl viewers calculated if they are using a Nielson survey?

*I have no clue how ratings work, find this discussion interesting...

Certain. Put away your tin foil hats. Corporations don't track you as much as you think they do.

If they did, I'd have no Internet connection right now. I like evaluation copies of music and programs

Nielsen ratings are still used heavily, though they shouldn't be. Online hits are tracked by any competent business , let alone an entertainment network with endless sponsors and ads.

As for piracy, having information and acting on it are two very different things. There's also the matter of downloading vs sharing. they tend to nail people for the latter and sometimes for just an album or two. Operating under the assumption that they don't know nor will act because nothing happened is a pretty dangerous gamble.

I don't have ESPN U, will they be showing the same stuff at the later scheduled dates set to air on ESPN?

I hope that some of you guys will pull a BB73 with ESPN updates for those of us that can't/won't be watching.

I more meant, they don't monitor that actively. They have the information, yes, but won't do anything about it unless asked.

Just like any survey. They use a percentage derived from the survey and extrapolate for the entire population. Just like any statistical survey, Nielsen attempts to use a wide variety of homes in order to get an accurate representation of the US population. As long as the sample size is high enough and diverse enough, it will be rather accurate.

No, as far as I can tell they won't be re-airing on the main station. However, I'm sure someone will get a torrent up (I would if I had my capture card setup or even my DVD Recorder).

The only persons I know who are currently in Nielsen's survey population do not watch television, except very occasional PBS specials. They get all their news online, stream movies, and have tastes that don't remotely resemble Mr. and Mrs. Average American. It's fun to listen to them talk about sending in their empty ratings sheets.
