ESPN bringing back Keith Jackson!

Taosman

Your Cousin In New Mexxico
Holley Night of the Living Dead! ESPN is bringing back Keith Jackson! He should have gone to the dog track long ago! Even before 2002! Big Ten gets Musberger and Danielson, which I think is one of if not the best teams.

even though i am going to the game, i will be pissed if jackson decides to but his way into the game, leaving musburger out to dry. Musburger is the voice of Big Ten football. It was a sin that musburger did all the great and exciting games in 2002, and then keith jackson boxed him out for the fiesta bowl. brent, having done all our games that year, was very knowledgable about the team, whereas keith was totally clueless. brent deserved to do that game. that miami game was filled with ridiculous plays that should have had so many memorable calls corresponding with them. instead we got keith mumbling in a monotone voice, "the buckeyes win. they are 14-0." musburger would have been screaming his head off and ejaculating, instead we get keith, who had to be constantly propped awake by dan fouts with a stick.

i hate keith jackson. he is a legendary announcer and was great in the past, but now he sounds like college football bores him. he never gets excited. during the rose bowl, vince young was ripping off ridiculous runs, and all jackson could say was "touchdown.....uhhh....texas."

Trail......I tend agree. Although there are times where I disagree with Musburger, he does announce games very well and does put a little excitement into the games with his commentary. His Ginn call in the scUM game last year was awesome!! Jackson is a classic, but does put you asleep a little.

I loved listening to Keith Jackson for about 25 years, but he should have stayed retired a few years ago. But he wasn't as bad as Dan Fouts in the 2003 Fiesta Bowl!

You guys didn't like his "Barn" Childress references?

I can hear it now... "How often do you see two fullbacks, and one of 'em is named Brandon Schnittker, and the other's named Dionte Johnson?"

for the most part.. Jackson will now only agree to do west coast games... and he's blatantly PAC-10... so I don't miss him at all... I'd be pissed if he did OSU-Texas

word... it really is no wonder that Musburger and Danielson are the best in the business, they're both from the Big Ten...

bah, I like Keith Jackson, though I'd admit his skills have gone down quite a bit...he is still better than 95% of the guys announcing sports on ESPN/ABC/etc...Musburger is definitely my favorite though, he and Danielson make a good pairing...does anyone remember Bob Griese? I thought it quite ridiculous they let him announce his son's games.

Commentary

Yeah I agree with what most of you are saying. I don't care for dan or keith's commentary (but i most ceratainly don't have anything aganst them). I just didn't care for it that much and though it kins of watered down the game (The Fiesta Bowl in 2003 I mean). Brent easily is my favorite. Who could ever forget his infamous call against purdue in 2002 when Jenkins made the "catch". Touchdown! Touchdown! Thats all I need to hear!!!!
I was thinking about it in the shower, I even got goosebumps!!!!!!!!!
I know I know kind of a weird place thinking about it but its the truth

Also if I could pick just one game to hear him (other than SCum) It would have to be the Texas game. Anybody agree with me?

Only quote of his I liked was when the game was over with and (I believe it was him) he said, "Rest in peace Woody - The NEW man has arrived." That was memorable, prolly the only exciting he said all night long.

Keith Jackson is a caricature of his former self and it's not that pretty. He's still fun and easy to imitate... "Oh Lordy" and "here come them big uglies" is standard Saturday faire in my household and on the hotline to my brother but I'd rather listen to Pam Ward and Spielman or Tomzcak... and whatever happened to Spielman on Espen? Did he piss people off in '02 when he punked Trev to his face the one time they had them square off IIRC. There was nothing wrong with him. He was kind of like Madden. Mikey Tomzcak (sp?) is silky smooth, though and he really gets what's going on on the field without question, but so did Spielman... sorry for that off-ness.

Keith Jackson... hmmmm... nope.

Used to hate Musberger during the Cooper era, but now it's as if he really enjoys coming to the midwest to do a game and to the Horseshoe with "Gary, my man," and 'his old buddy' "Jack Arute down on the sideline". I will be much older some day and enjoying some nice ESPN classics to old Musberger and Danielson's blatant Purdue lean the same way we watch old Wolverine-Buckeye games with those real skinny guys with the big white neckbraces on their shoulder pads, saying to my son, "See boy, that's how a game is called."

As a complete sidebar, I'd love it if someone started a service where you could pipe in commentators of your favorite genre to do your game. You could have:

Ghetto Genre: "Oh, shizzle. D'you see dude get his shit all facemasked and shit?"

Redneck Genre: "Pass me a Beast. Holy Shit, Jethro! Man, got all smashed up in thar, lucky, 'at 'ol dang quarterback didn't carried out on dadgum stretcher."

Spanish Language: "!Olay (ole) este la Sabado Gigante!" (translation, lots of tit cheeleader shots jumping up and down with much skimpier outfits)

As a complete other sidebar, you should be able to pick alternative camera shots and be your own guy in the van if you want to. That would be cool. Just kind of stare at the fans for a while if it's a blowout. Pan out and see actual coverages and have a better shot at alignments so you can watch from the film angle.

These would all be good things if the football gods would just make them so.

He was supposed to be "West Coast only" when he weasled his way into doing The 100th Game. I wonder just how pissed Musberger and Danielson were when they learned they were bumped from that game...
