ESPN (A bunch of Death-Spiraling maroons)

Don't forget who we are talking about here. SECspIN. They are in the Sports Entertainment business. Salacious sells.

I regret not taking a picture of ESPN's scroll bar earlier this week, where they listed tOSU's (2-3) record against the Big12 since 2005. I immediately thought something wasn't quite right with that statistic and began thinking of the outcomes tOSU had with Big12 teams. The Ohio State University beat Texas and Oklahoma and lost to Texas (twice) and Oklahoma. I also recalled tOSU victories against Kansas State and Oklahoma State. So I researched the matchups and sure enough tOSU beat Kansas State and Oklahoma Sate in bowl games following the 2003 and 2004 seasons, respectively. But ESPN doesn't care about those victories, because including those outcomes would have given tOSU a winning record against the Big12 since 2003. ESPN would rather go back only far enough to make tOSU look inferior to the Big12. Gee, why am I NOT surprised?

Oh, and just for the record, tOSU also went undefeated vs. the Big12 in victories against Texas Tech in 2002, Missouri and Texas A&M in 1998 and Missouri in 1997. So over the past 22 seasons (when the Big12 was founded in 1996), tOSU is 8-3 against teams from the Big12. OSU's winning percentage would be even higher if victories over teams from the Big8 that eventually made up the Big12 were included. No wonder ESPN chose to only go back to 2005...

They did mention that all those Big XII opponents since 2005 where in the top 15 (as is TCU currently).

Week 3 Power Rankings: Ohio State shines on Big Ten's rough day

It wasn't all bad news for the Big Ten on Saturday.

On a day when Big Ten members Maryland, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin each lost to double-digit underdogs at home -- and Rutgers lost at Kansas by ... ahem ... 41 points -- Ohio State salvaged what was left of the league's reputation.

The Buckeyes, playing without coach Urban Meyer for the third game in a row (his suspension ended after Saturday's game), came from behind to stun TCU 40-28 on the road in Arlington, Texas. The marquee nonconference road victory might mean quite a bit in November, when the College Football Playoff selection committee chooses the teams for the coveted four spots.

The Buckeyes weren't the only Big Ten team that played well on what was a very bad day for the league. Penn State walloped Kent State 63-10 and Michigan rolled SMU 45-20, as both of those teams seem to have their seasons headed back in the right direction.

As a result, Ohio State, Penn State and Michigan were among the big movers in this week's Power Rankings.

Remember, the Power Rankings are about how you look and whom you play each week. Forget the body of work or the brand name. These rankings drip with recency bias.

Here are the rankings after Week 3:

2. Ohio State

Week 3 result: Defeated TCU 40-28
What's next: vs. Tulane (Saturday, TBD)
The Buckeyes couldn't have asked for a better ending to coach Urban Meyer's three-game suspension than coming from behind to beat the Horned Frogs at a neutral site in Texas. Quarterback Dwayne Haskins passed his first big road test, completing 24 of 38 passes for 344 yards with two touchdowns.

I had the unfortunate opportunity to listen to McElroy's show this morning on the way into work.

The entire time it was taking calls from morons in North Carolina (primarily, there was one guy from Alabama) who were more or less repeating the ESECSECSECPN mantras and then Mcelroy praising or fellating the SEC (obviously) and somehow complimenting the ACC

he stays on script. Oh and he was also talking about the most efficient QBs in college football and mentioned some guy from NC State, Will Grier and what's his name in Alabama. No mention of Haskins (or McSorely) at all.

It surprises you that a QB who won a National Championship and SEC championships at Alabama is SEC biased whilst working for SECspIN?

It didn't bother me much about him so much, but the Will Grier and NC State guy without mentioning Haskins was a joke.

Like I said, he stays on script. Eventually Herbstreit will get forced off the reservation and we'll have to deal with McElroy's catch phrases instead...

I was driving home at 11:30 on Saturday night after an airport pick-up and wanted to keep tabs on what was going on, so I flipped to 97.1 to check in. And I kid you not....that have some dues talking about gaming and e-sports. What the actual fuck, ESPN?

I heard that too! It started around 10PM. I was driving my daughter into the hospital because she stepped in a hole and hurt her foot again. It was a little disorienting especially given the number of games still going on at that point in time.

Honestly not surprising. Twitch.tv averages 140 million unique monthly views. That's a bigger audience than Netflix currently reaches.

Gaming is yuuuge.
