ESPiN's Wojciechoski slams OSU in article

What's funny to me about this article, and those like it, is how everyone likes to pretend that it's surprising that quite a few 17-23 year old college students, including athletes, smoke or have smoked marijuana.

Show me a coach who claims less than half his team smokes, and I'll show you one who is either (a) feigning ignorance, or (b) ignorant.

Obviously there are players on all teams who don't and haven't, but, ah, I'd probably put them in the minority. Here's another way to put it. If the NCAA and all I-A institutions decided to do a coordinated mass crackdown on smoking this Fall, the football and basketball seasons nation-wide would have to be cancelled. Or in a Necessary Roughness-like movement, you'd see kids from the debate, A/V and chess teams walking on to play in order to fill rosters.

This is in no way an Ohio State issue. At all. Even a little bit.

One wonders if it should be an issue at all. <-- use, not dealing.

No, I'm not wearing a NORML tee. No, outside of second-hand exposure at more concerts than I can list[sup]1[/sup], I don't and haven't partaken myself, but not at all because of some moral or legally-driven aversion. I just can't think of a legitimate argument to justify its current legal classification. But that's an entirely different discussion.

[sup]1[/sup] - The highlight being working at Woodstock'94, and constantly being offered weed as a form of currency. "Hey man, can I have a bag of ice, a 2-liter of Coke and 4 burgers in exchange for this baggie?"
