Eric Kasilious saying USC's schedule is soft

I guess I was suggesting that the PAC-10 (minus USC) is worse than the Big 10 (minus OSU and Mich).

Arizona St. < Iowa
Cal < Purdue
Oregon State < Minnesota
Oregon < Penn State
UCLA > Wisconsin
Arizona = Michigan State
Washington State = Northwestern
Stanford > Illinois
Washington > Indiana
I would have to disagree with you on a few points:

Arizona St. =< Iowa
Cal > Purdue
Oregon State < Minnesota
Oregon > Penn State
UCLA = Wisconsin
Arizona < Michigan State
Washington State > Northwestern
Stanford > Illinois
Washington > Indiana

Actually, I think Cal Purdont would be an interesting game. Their O's should be comparable. I really like what Marshawn Lynch can do. I think Purdon't wins on Defense. Lost in the "basketball on grass" business is that Purdon'ts D has been pretty good. Not Ohio State good, but I'd say it would be the #2 unit in the PAc 10 (behind SC)

My take:

Arizona St. < Iowa
Cal = Purdue
Oregon State < Minnesota
Oregon = Penn State
UCLA >= Wisconsin
Arizona < Michigan State
Washington State => Northwestern
Stanford > Illinois
Washington > Indiana

I say that the Big 10 is the better conference through the top 7 teams minus USC pretty much hands down. Yeah the Big 10 has a pretty bad bottom but who really cares about that? If there was a football matchup similar to the basketball Big 10/ACC challeng, I say the Big 10 wins 8-2 saying Indiana did not play. The new lineup would be:

USC >= Ohio St.
Arizona St. < Michigan
Cal =< Iowa
Oregon State < Purdue
Oregon < Minnesota
UCLA =< Penn State
Arizona =< Wisconsin
Washington State < Michigan State
Stanford =< Northwestern
Washington > Illinois

And who is USC's big OOC game? Notre Dame? :roll2:

I think when comparing conferences of different sizes, taking out the bottom teams from the bigger conference doesn't give a fair portrayal. It is probably more wise to take out teams from the middle. Basically, compare the B10's top 5 versus the Pac10's top 5 and the Big10's bottom 5 versus the Pac10's bottom 5 (so remove the Big10's #6 team, Penn State).

I also don't agree with the ranking of the Pac10 teams. Here are the media poll rankings from the Pac10 media day:
1. USC
2. Cal
3. Arizona State
4. Oregon
5. UCLA
6. Washington State
7. Oregon State
8. Arizona
9. Stanford
10. Washington

Thus the matchups would be:

USC versus tOSU
Cal versus Michigan
Arizona State versus Iowa
Oregon versus Purdue
UCLA versus Minnesota
Washington State versus Wisconsin
Oregon State versus Michigan State
Arizona versus Northwestern
Stanford versus Illinois
Washington versus Indiana

Honestly I just took the lineup for the Pac-10 that was previously on this post. If I re-do the games I get:

USC >= tOSU
Cal < Michigan
Arizona State =< Iowa
Oregon < Purdue
UCLA =< Minnesota
Washington State > Wisconsin
Oregon State =< Michigan State
Arizona =< Northwestern
Stanford >= Illinois
Washington > Indiana

Big 10 wins 6-4. I understand your theory of remove a middle team but unfortunately the middle team adds power to the conference. When another conference is rated overall with the Big 10, a good middle team makes the conference stronger.

Games 2,3 and 4 are the only potential landmines I can even see for USC unless ND or UCLA can pull off a rivalry game miracle. I am just not sold on Cal at all.

Arkansas at home then at Oregon and at ASU..none are great by themselves but maybe the cumulative effect can get them. Especially like seeing them have to play a mid-level but traditionally very physical SEC team to start it.

At Oregon will be a good one. The Fresno State game at home is going to be a lot tougher than most teams expect. Some people are saying that this is the most talented Fresno team in a long time, even more so than Carr's team. USC should win but its going to be very interesting. I would definitely take Fresno and the points.

This is how I would rank this list. I really think Iowa would win big over ASU this year, for revenge if nothing else. I also do NOT think scUM is a better team than Cal, and depending on where the game is, I think Cal would win. meshitagain just doesn't have the horses on defense, and say what you want about their offense, they're starting two sophomores at the most critical positions and lost their only threat in Edwards. There could be some huge growing pains at QB this year.

It's always tough to rank conf. vs. conf., especially when you're biased (as everybody here tends to be). Little things like who has home field advantage could be the difference maker in a lot of these games. But, I really think the advantage would go to the Big 10, if for no other reason than defense. OSU, Purdue, and Penn State all return at least nine starters on defense, and all were above-average to very good last year. Wisky will always have a tough D, and Michigan State's D will likely be better than any Pac 10 opponent.

From a talent perspective, I really see the Big 10 and the SEC as tops in the country this year. From top to bottom in the conferences, there are more potential pitfalls in those conferences than anywhere else. I mean, compare Oklahoma's or USC's schedule to LSU's or OSU's....no contest.

This guy is right on the money! I was listening to this portion of the show yesterday, and I couldn't agree more. He said that b/c of USC's soft schedule, if they lose 1 game, they should be out of the national title picture, hands down. This guy got it exactly right--get that soft schedule outta here.
