Great idea for a thread.

I made a post in the "Polls" thread that I said I would repeat. And as long as we have a thread with this theme, it belongs here.

This is the second time this season that I will be asserting what follows. I sincerely hope that I will repeat myself many times, because that would mean the Buckeyes have continued to win.

*ahem*

Wasn't there enough hand-wringing in 2002? Weren't there enough people on a message board that shall remain nameless that were upset at Tressel, the pollsters, the computer programmers and the media for screwing us out of a NC berth that we WEREN'T screwed out of? Didn't enough of Buckeye Nation completely fail to relish that glorious season?

This is a fantastic time to be a Buckeye. Let's enjoy it people.

...............

When I made this point in that other hideous place during 2002, people reminded me ad nauseum that "just because we're winning doesn't mean we shouldn't discuss what could be done better..." blah blah flippity frickin blah.

Hey, it's a message board. I get it. Some of you are going to complain because that's what you do. Fine.

Those of us who choose to enjoy the ENTIRE season instead of just the glorious ending will be glad to welcome you to the party when you come to join us.

And if there is a stumble along the way, so be it. These are OUR BUCKEYES. This edition is giving their all for the Scarlet & Grey. God Bless Them no matter what happens.

I'm going to enjoy every second of this, all the way to Glendale.

In the context of this thread I will add that this is a great PLACE to be a Buckeye. For a message board to maintain the positive, mutually affirming atmosphere that we have here violates every known cliche about sports message boards. For such a site to be a Buckeye Board with giant collective man-crushes on Jim Tressel and Troy Smith makes it one of the best places imaginable to bask in the bliss of this season.

To 'Ryn, Sushi, Peach, Crystal, Deety etc... sorry about the man-crush thing. Just trying to capture the BP zeitgeist. I'm sure if you were really offended by comments like that, you wouldn't be here.

Ohio State went something like 75 years between national championships. Maybe not quite that long. But one was before I was born, and then the next was after I'd been watching football for many years. And judging by the incoherent ramblings of all the voices in my head, I estimate my age to be pretty close to 75.

To think that, only 4 years later, the Buckeyes are on the verge of playing for another national championship is pretty cool. And it's times like this that it's easy to think that the Buckeyes will be back next year, and the year after, and so on. But a pendulum will always swing back down. The Buckeyes will have some off-years. And then it will swing back up. About once every 4 years would be OK with me.

I know it's easy to get caught up in the season, "why haven't we thrown to the tight end more," "Why doesn't Troy run more", "Why's the field in such terrible shape" etc...

I sat through many seasons where I wondered if I'd ever see a National Title. I, along with many others, got extremely fortunate in 2002 and witnessed one of the most gritty teams of all time.

This year's team has been an absolute joy to watch. The team plays clean, plays hard, and plays as a single unit.

Being ranked #1 isn't a right, it's a privilege that very few teams and fans ever get to experience.

Just want people to sit back and appreciate all the good things this season has brought. Our players haven't embarrassed the university and have been pure class on and off of the field. When you see the players interviewed, they speak like the fine young men that they are; well-spoken, humble individuals.

We may win the National Title and we may not, who knows. No matter what happens it's been a great ride and I appreciate everything the players and coaches have done for The Ohio State University.

Oh yeah, kick the hell out of Michigan!!!

Don't get ahead of yourself. Troy's going to have to run more, and we're giong to have to get the ball to the TE more often, if we're going to beat M********. :wink2:

Great post Thump, I agree 100% with your point. It's almost as if we've taken some of this season for granted because we've become spoiled by this football team. I can honestly say as I've watched them steamroll through Texas, Iowa, ect. that I found myself saying that this is one of the best Ohio State football teams that I have ever seen. The kids play hard, smart, and within themselves. Most importantly, these guys have a lot of fun......and play as a team. I think that it's a testiment to Jim Tressel and his staff, and the moxie that they have instilled within this program. The kids play with confidence, and play like they expect to win.

I think that Tressel's influence is very evident even in the press conferences that our players give. Everyone stay's level, and they don't exude arrogance......yet when the silver bullets come out of that tunnel every week, I don't think there is a soul on that team who thinks they are going to lose. Success breeds confidence, perhaps even swagger. You earn the right to play with swagger, this team has done that this season.

Who knows how it will all unfold, but I can tell you one thing..... It's going to take one hell of a football team to bring down this batch of Buckeyes.

I almost feel like Tressel has done all he can do at this point...I hope he is enjoying it too. This is Troy's team now, more so than i've EVER seen a QB just take over a team. Tressel has recruited fine boys, and turned them into better men. I watch other coaches and other players on other teams speak...and none come close to the class that Ohio State has.

This is the future of Ohio State football that we all hoped would come when Tressel was hired. 5 more games of showing the world how great it is being a Buckeye!
