Starting to see a pattern?
Scott Satterfield as HC + Emory Jones as (possible) QB1 in the Big 12...what could go wrong?CINCINNATI — ESPN recently tiered every FBS quarterback situation for the 2023 season, and Emory Jones/Evan Prater checked in at Tier 10 out of 20.
"Jones fizzled at Florida and walked into an untenable situation at Arizona State, but he may have found a great fit at Cincinnati," David Hale wrote. "First-year head coach Scott Satterfield had a guy with a similar skill set at Louisville in Malik Cunningham, and during Satterfield's run with the Cardinals, they posted the 12th-best Total QBR in the country (76.9)."
Satterfield is a coach known to build ideal situations for his quarterbacks—unlike the one Jones was in at ASU last season. Cincinnati has beefed up the offensive line and receiving corps via a few nice transfer pickups over the past six months.
Namely, wide receiver Xzavier Henderson is back in the fold with his old quarterback he caught passes from in 2021. What looked like a headache unit has been moderately salvaged, pending decent health for the rest of 2023.
There aren't many roadblocks to Jones at least producing similarly to Ben Bryant last year. The new Northwestern quarterback ranked 50th in passing yards (2,732) and 44th in passing touchdowns (21) last season. Roughly 3,000 total yards and 20-plus total touchdowns from Jones should keep Cincinnati sniffing around bowl conversations by the season's end.
