So, i'm probably going to get this...but am wondering. Should I get Oblivion + both expansions for 25bucks via Steam and play it now while waiting? I'm not going back to play the two games from the mid 90s, and I don't even think I can go back and play the 2002 Morrowind (I played it but I don't think I beat it on Xbox).

Skyrim looks very different from Oblivion and Morrowind. If anything I'd think that playing those games as a refresher right beforehand would make it kind of tough to adjust to the new game. However, if you need a fix to get you thru to November I say go for it.

Of the two, I enjoyed Morrowind more. Oblivion is probably crafted better, but I think Morrowind's depth is unbeatable.

I played Morrowind for a long time on Xbox but never got Oblivion. I've been thinking about getting Oblivion just to play it and get ready for this game. I tried to go back and play Morrowind, but it's one of the games you can only play on the original Xbox and not Xbox 360, which sucks.

Morrowind's game immersion was ridiculous. Vanilla Oblivion (no mods or expansions) was one of the best games ever created as far as gameplay goes. After adding a serious list of mods to the game, Oblivion became even more playable for me. After the main quest is over, there are still lots of things to do. Actually, I did the main quest after about 100 hours of play, to make it more challenging, because as you level up, so do the enemies.

if you get Oblivion for the PC, check out tesnexus.com. Great mods available to make the game so much better.

Would you say the game is better for PC or console?

Most definitely for PC. Thats the case for Fallout and any of the Elder Scrolls games. I won't lie that because of various Windows factors you're bound to crash once in awhile using the PC versions, but the console versions are apt to lockup entirely every once in awhile as well. With the PC versions theres all kinds of cool mods you can install to enhance the game, or even add to it like with new quests, new content, houses/castles, dungeons, NPC's, HD textures, music, spells, weapons, you name it. One of the neatest mods I downloaded for Fallout involved changing the Microfusion ammiunition from it's current texture to one that make it look just like a Duracell battery, so every time I reloaded my gun I was replacing a coppertop battery. Its simple, but it's fun little things that the modding community puts out that make these games even better. Oblivion had a mod released called Midas's spells I think, it added hundreds of new spell types and animations created by a team of modders, just fantastic work.
