Navy brings aboard Penn State coach Ed DeChellis

The college basketball coaching carousel hasn't stopped turning. Ed DeChellis is leaving Penn State to take the vacancy at Navy.
The move is a surprise with the Nittany Lions off a season that saw them advance to the Big Ten conference title game and earn their first NCAA tournament appearance in 10 years.
"It's been a very, very dificult weekend for me and my family. If I break down, there's good reason for that," DeChellis said during a news conference. "Penn State is a special place for me and my family, but I found another special place in the U.S. Naval Academy."
DeChellis will replace Billy Lange, who left for an assistant job at Villanova.

Cont'd...

Every time that team makes the tournament, it's with a senior-laden lineup (and don't get me wrong, Battle was a good player) and it is a 10 year rebuilding odyssey to get back again. They don't support their basketball program at all (just like Jim Boeheim said they wouldn't back when they joined) so it is really no surprise DeChellis didn't want to go through it again.

meh. the bubble was extremely soft this year. the teams that weren't invited simply didn't do enough to make their case obvious to the committee. no one can rightfully claim that penn state was clearly inferior to any uninvited team.

okay then. come up with an uninvited team who clearly deserved to be in over psu. understand that there were six or so teams seeded worse than penn state, so you pretty much have to come up with as many uninvited teams to displace psu.

I think you're missing the classic BN27 hate on anything PSU font.

another interesting angle on this move for UD basketball fans..... Juwan Staten transferred from UD after he/his dad said BG lied to them regarding the style of play that UD would use in 2010.

Juwan transfers from UD, Brian Greggory leaves UD, Juwan supposedly meets with Archie Miller about staying, Miller says no thanks, Staten transfers to PSU, PSU coach leaves, Staten is quoted as saying he is looking for another place to transfer. (not to mention that Staten and his father's negativity towards UD pretty much convinced his roommate Brandon Spearman to transfer as well...to a JUCO)

I find this extremely amusing since Staten and his father were a cancer to the UD program last season. Couldn't happen to a nicer family.
