Eating Bass

I should have re-worded this poll as:

Is it "normal" to eat freshwater bass?

My buddy from NW Ohio says everyone up there does it, but I honestly had never heard of anyone eating it in my home area.

I asked him if it is so normal, why I cannot order it at a seafood restaurant or why it is not in the seafood case at the local grocery store?

He did not have a good answer for that.

people down here eat them all the time.
really good eating fish.

i prefer fishing slatwater, so it's not often that I catch them, but they are definitely a good tasting fish.


as far as the restaurant question:
here in Louisiana, several species are designated as "game fish".
perfectly legal to catch and consume (as long as you follow size and bag limits).
but you can't fish them commercially and sell you catch.

trout and redfish are listed as game fish.
but drum can be fished commercially and sold in markets/restaurants.
