One of the things I love about baseball is the variation of field surfaces and dimensions. The rules of baseball cover where the four bases, pitchers mound, rubber, and batters boxes are supposed to be, but after the infield it's pretty much up to the lay of the land and the architect. It's part of the charm of baseball that it's the only sport where you will regularly make a legal play on a batted ball while you're out of bounds, and you may have to dodge spectators, officals, and furniture while doing it.jlb1705;1655422; said:My biggest concern isn't who gets on TV, it's trying to maintain uniformity in playing surfaces throughout the game. I realize each place is going to be a little different based on how high the grass is, how good it is, or whether or not it's real or fake. I don't think any more variables are desirable.
Particularly LBs or DL lurking underneath in their peripheral vision. That would be a much better scientific study than the idiotic face symmetry angle they used to evaluate quarterbacks.I've always wondered how many opposing QBs throw INTs that result from not seeing a Boise State player because they're camouflaged (blue uniforms against a blue backdrop). I realize that teams that wear green are going might enjoy a similar situation on a naturally colored field, but visiting players would be acclimated to that coloring where they wouldn't be on a strange colored field.
We need more grey as it is, dude. Maybe grey numbers on a black turf with Woody's face at the 50.. now I'd pay $15 extra dollars per ticket for that!!1!Chewbacca;1655504; said:I'd only support scarlet turf in the Shoe if we can occasionally have a black alternative turf.
To be honest, it's really wasteful spending to redress the field for different events and only use the facilities for certain sports, or have different buildings for non-revenue sports. I say just go ahead and paint hashes for high school, college and the NFL on there, and maybe add all the field markings for la crosse, rugby, and soccer! Just leave all of them on there year-round. There's no reason not to have some event at the 'Shoe every single day of the year.Bleed S & G;1655537; said:We need more grey as it is, dude.
