That's a pain in the buns
I follow Pastapadre on Twitter, he's got articles saying there may be an EA subscription. Not sure of the details because I haven't read any of the articles, but it's not sounding good.

The preparation of a “subscription service” by EA Sports has created widespread discussion throughout gaming communities. Though nothing is official yet the documents and surveys circulating suggest optional value add-ons for a yearly fee ranging from $14.99 to $34.99 are on the way. The “service” looks to be akin to a loyalty program, an idea EA also flirted with in the past, though with an upfront fee and perks that go beyond simple discounts.

Dumb idea. EA just testing the waters on how much of a sports monopoly it has within the games industry. I buy 1 EA sports game every few years currently, but I wouldn't hesitate to never buy again. Too much creativity out there with other developers to waste my time with lousy EA Sports games and the stifling of innovation within the physics/gameplay of their sports.

NHL and FIFA have made giant strides in the last few years, but its still coming across as annual patches as opposed to new games.

Basically, on top of the ass raping you receive every time you renew your membership (Xbox 360 only, I miss my PS3), you are now faced with repeated ass rapings for every EA game you purchase.

You know, this whole online gaming thing is getting a little out of hand when it comes to charging people for the GAMES THE PLAY ON TOP of charging people to play Xbox online ON TOP of the internet you have to pay for as well....

What a cruel world.

I'd feel a little more hostile if the times weren't so tough right now. But EA is just being little GREEDY bastards. I really hope other companies make sports games to compete with EA. Not sure which licenses are EA exclusive. Anyone know?

I think EA has NFL, NCAA, PGA, and FIFA

the only sports I can think of that there is competition is NBA and NHL

2K has MLB

If they go to subscriptions, I'm never buying a EA again, so no online dynasty for me :(

Rugby & AFL.

The only football license they don't hold is the actual football (no I don't call it that, but our sport is foolishly named)

They have FIFA, but LUCKILY there's another decent soccer game out there Pro Evolution Soccer. I haven't personally tried it out yet, but I've heard good things. Here's to hoping they can continue to give EA and FIFA a run for their money.
