Impressive collection.

Unfortunately there's a lot of blue in there too.

Dear Friends:
This is a remarkable moment in time for this great University, and it is a moment I wish to share with all of you.
On October 4, the University will launch the public phase of its fundraising campaign to enable us to extend our full promise and potential to our students and to the people in Ohio and beyond.
One of the earliest contributors gave the campaign its theme, But for Ohio State. In 2011, Les Wexner and his wife, Abigail, along with the Limited Brands Foundation, committed $100 million to The Ohio State University - by far the largest gift in Ohio State's history. He expressed his connection to the University quite simply: "But for Ohio State, I would have never been able to go to college."
His story resonated with the University community. We started hearing from hundreds of alumni, friends, students, and patients about their own But for Ohio State stories, about how Ohio State had touched their lives. And the theme for the campaign was born.
The Ohio State University is about changing people's lives. It is that simple. We educate. We innovate. We heal. We create. None of this is possible, But for Ohio State. And none of this is possible without your efforts - the creative work of our faculty, the immense talents and dedication of our staff, and the best students in the world.
For this reason, I invite you to take part in a University-only event on the main Oval to celebrate what Ohio State means to us all. Join us on October 4 for the But for Ohio State: "Rock the Oval" campaign celebration and concert featuring O.A.R., the rock band that got its musical and educational start at Ohio State. Co-sponsored by the Ohio Union Activities Board, the pre-concert show begins at 8 p.m. and will include special guests, videos, and The Best Damn Band in The Land. The concert will begin at 9:30 p.m. For more information, visit go.osu.edu/rocktheoval.
In conjunction with Homecoming and the Alumni Reunion Weekend, our campaign kickoff will truly be a momentous way to celebrate being a Buckeye for life (For Twitter users: #BuckeyeforLife).
The campaign will enable our University to continue its mission of improving lives and enriching communities for generations to come. You are an integral part of our forward progress. I look forward to celebrating with you on October 4.
Sincerely,
E. Gordon Gee
President

My son went to an academic open house and tour of the OSU campus this past Friday and met Dr. Gee along the way. My son's comment was, "he was wearing a bow tie, you know, one of those you tie by hand". I enjoyed showing him the above picture.

Met Dr. Gee at the Penn State pre-game brunch for the first time two years when my DD1 was trying to decide whether or not to apply to the Honors College at OSU. When he was introduced to her by one of the Department Chairs in Engineering and he found out about her academic qualifications, he turned on the best recruiting pitch I've ever heard....then his office followed up with her directly. She ultimately decided to go to a very selective liberal arts school back east (where she could also play soccer without putting her education in second place), but OSU was her clear second choice because of Gordon Gee.....she wants to go to Med School here.

The guy is just amazing and is worth every penny we pay him, every nickel he spend entertaining on behalf of the University and every bow tie cookie he hands out.

Gets Raise + bonus

Ohio State trustees voted this morning to give President E. Gordon Gee a 3 percent pay raise worth $25,036 and a $333,812 bonus for raising billions of dollars for the university through fundraising and several bold new initiatives.

University trustees praised Gee for helping the university thrive during tough economic times. Trustee Chairman Alex Shumate said Gee is ?bold, charismatic and has a vision.?

The raise will bump Gee?s base salary to $859,566. The increase mirrors the overall percentage given to OSU?s faculty and staff members this year.

With deferred compensation of $225,000 for completing five years at OSU and a retirement plan worth $641,301, Gee?s total compensation this year is worth about $2 million.

His total package will be about $2 million, including deferred compensation, supplemental pay and other benefits, such as a retirement package of nearly $641,301. Gee has topped The Chronicle of Higher Education?s executive-pay survey of public-college presidents since returning to Ohio State in 2007.

To be clear, this is a only a 3% raise for Gee, typical for OSU staff this year, and he's returned over a million in compensation over the last few years, while OSU still manages to provide such a top-notch oil legs program.

Yeah, clearly Gee hasn't earned it :roll1:

I never said that he didn't "earn" it, but how much compensation is enough for an "educator"? I know it must be tough going to those fancy dinners and events and hob knobbing with captains of industry.

Meanwhile, everyday students and parents stare down $200 text books that hold no resale value and pay ever increasing tuition fees that exceed the cot of inflation.

I know he does an exceptional job for OSU, but wouldn't it be nice just to hold things flat for a year?

your argument screams otherwise.

He's not an educator. He's a leader and fundraiser.
I know it must be tough going to those fancy dinners and events and hob knobbing with captains of industry.

Which happens at tiny schools with presidents making chump change, making your point a pretty terrible one.
I know he does an exceptional job for OSU, but wouldn't it be nice just to hold things flat for a year?
The guy raises billions and you're angry that he's getting a 3/1000th of a billion dollar payday.

If that's not grounds for a raise, what in the world would be? Raising ten billion? Curing cancer? Firing Gene Smith?
