Dylan Raiola (QB Nebraska)

Ohio State football recruiting: Kirk Herbstreit congratulates Dylan Raiola on commitment to Buckeyes

The link has some good states/bio information:

Out of Chandler (Ariz.) High, Raiola is the No. 8 player for the Class of 2024, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite. He is the No. 3 quarterback and top-ranked player from Arizona. He is the top overall player in his class in the 247Sports rankings.

"Well, the No. 1 player in the country on 247Sports," Wiltfong said on 247Sports’ Football Recruiting Podcast about what Ohio State is getting in Raiola. "They're getting a player with terrific pedigree. The young man's father played 14 years in the NFL for the Detroit Lions. He was a two-time All-American at the University of Nebraska and his number's retired in Lincoln. His mom was a swimmer and water polo player at the University of Hawaii and his older sister plays volleyball at TCU. So, very competitive group. I was at practice today at Chandler High School and you see all the leadership qualities.

"He just moved here from Burleson, Texas, and the leadership role that he's already taken on with his new teammates — at, really, one of the powerhouse programs out West — was really impressive, the command he has, and then he's just a terrific football player that can make all the throws. Threw for over 3,300 yards as a sophomore and 32 touchdowns, ran for nine more scores. He's very accurate with the football, can make throws from several different arm angles — kind of gets those (Patrick) Mahomes comparisons, in that regard, but he can make things happen on the move, throw to all levels of the field. Just a terrific competitor and a young man that is our No. 1 player in the country for all those reasons."

Raiola played his first two seasons of high school football at Burleson (Texas) High where the family was also able to be closer to his older sister who played volleyball at TCU. He threw for 3,341 yards and 32 touchdowns with another nine rushing scores as a sophomore.

Raiola’s father Dominic played 14 seasons on the offensive line for the Detroit Lions after an All-American career at Nebraska. One of his teammates in the NFL was quarterback Jon Kitna who is now the head coach at Burleson.

According to NevadaBuck and Barton(I know I know, they both can be POS, but they still have some Buckeye info and I'm a sucker for recruiting info), Dylan will be QB for SFE at several events. Most notably one in Las Vegas, and the event at OSU later this summer. Can only help getting him building a rapport with his possible future teammates.

I thought I had commented on this commitment. Just unreal really, Coach Day gets whoever he wants at QB, it's beyond impressive. Long way to go until he signs obviously, but apparently we're just going to get a top QB in every class and then let everything sort itself out. That's been working pretty well, so I love to see that continue. But more importantly, welcome aboard Dylan! Now you can focus on recruiting the talent around you to come to Columbus. To be clear, this is a mega BOOOOOOOM!

According to Birm, Raiola was offered ZERO NIL money to come on board with the Buckeyes. The allure was to come to the best school, one of the best teams with the best development and EARN big NIL money by being a Buckeye. We are doing this differently and the way Birm explained how its all going right now made perfect sense. Ohio State, Alabama, Clemson and a couple others aren't "buying" these guys with NIL because we don't need to. The option to earn it is going to be there. The A&Ms the Ole Miss and whatever other also rans that are using the NIL as a massive recruiting tool are doing it in fear of regulations in the future and they know that once that happens that the also rans will be nothing yet again. Short window for garbage uni's to have 10 seconds of fame again.

Just tells me even more about the Raiola family and the fortune that Ryan Day being the coach at Ohio State really is.

WATCH FIVE-STAR OHIO STATE QUARTERBACK COMMIT DYLAN RAIOLA SLING A FOOTBALL 72 YARDS

Raiola’s throw was the longest of any quarterback at the event.

While throwing a ball like a javelin after several crow-hops might not translate perfectly to an actual football game, it's absolutely an indication of just how strong Raiola's arm is already after just his sophomore year of high school.

Agreed that the long ball throw is just pretty much for amusement, but 72 yards at his age is absolutely insane and you don't throw it that far without a very strong arm. Hope this kid is a recruiter and starts building the class around him because he is looking like he will be a star.

Top Performers: Elite 11 Regional Camp in Southern California

Alpha Dog

Chandler (Ariz.) '24 Dylan Raiola- Underclassmen aren't eligible for the Elite 11 Finals but we thought Raiola had the best day. He was consistent throughout the camp and his best throws were the best throws in the event. For being as big as he is, and he looked all of 6-3, 230 pounds, Raiola is a plus athlete and makes throws off-platform and from outside the pocket look easy. He has a big arm but understands how to change speeds and threw with nice touch and timing. He threw a tight ball through windy conditions and was very accurate throughout. The Ohio State does a lot of his best work in a real game setting where he can show off his ability to extend plays and run over defenders but he showed he's a high level thrower as well.
