I need some help from you tech guys. I recorded the bowl game on my DVD burner (the kind that hooks to the TV like a VCR), but I can't find a way to make copies of it on my computer. The format that my TV burner uses doesn't play on other DVD players so the people that I promised copies to are SOL until I can find a way to rip the game to my computer and re-encode it as a normal DVD format. My computer can read the dvd so the format doesn't seem to be a problem in that respect. I have a copy of Nero that can convert video files to a dvd, but I don't have anything that will rip my dvd to a video file.
Does anyone know of a program that I can use to copy the game to my computer as a video file or to re-encode the dvd so that It will play on most dvd players? The quality is already not the best (for a dvd) since I had to record it on 4 hour mode so I don't want to do anything that will screw it up even more. I would appreciate any help.

EDIT: I also need to be able to edit out the commercials and set the chapters. The only way that I know if to do this is if I'm converting a video file with nero.

Nero should be able to copy it.

I use DVDDecrypter and DVD Shrink to copy movies.
You really should not need these as it is not copy protected.
DVDDecrypter will rip it and shrink will reauthor and shrink if necessary to fit a disk.

They are both free and you can find them on through google.

I use those as well. I was able to rip the DVD to my computer with both, but I can't edit out the the commercials. Nero thinks the DVD is copy protected so it won't do what I need from the original. If I remember correctly the only way that nero will let me edit out what I don't want is if I'm converting from a video file.

I am at work on a low powered laptop.
I do not have the programs I use with my desktop.
At home I have Adobe Premiere and Canopus that will do exactly what you want.

So you want to convert the VOB files to avi?
Then use Nero to edit and then burn to DVD?
Have you tried VirtualDub. It is freeware but is a pain in the ass to learn.

Have you checked DVDRhelp.com?
They will have a guide with software recommendations.

What DVD recorder did you use?
I have a Liteon and it does not copy protect but sticks a lot of junk menus in the files. I honestly am not patient enough to take out the commercials.

Are you using +R or -R disks? I am guessing +R if other players wont read them correctly. If you're using -R's, I see no reason why Nero wouldnt copy it.
The tv burner only writes to +R/RW but my computer can burn to both. I copied the DVD to a -RW already so I'll check to see that one works any better. I actually think the biggest problem that I'm having is editing out what I don't want.

nola- Thanks, I'll check out those sites.

Thump- MOVE!!! :p
