DVD Burning Question

Does anyone here who burns DVD make their own menus and/or do any conversion so that PC files can be played on a DVD player? I have a bunch of music videos I want to burn to a DVD, but first, I want to convert them to a watchable type (I think most are WMV or MPEG, and a few are OGM) and make a simple menu that I can pick the video to watch from. Is that real tough, or no?

I don't know what program to use to author it, and usually I'm pretty good about that kind of thing. :(

I think Nero can do that, but I have not done too much of that yet. I'm still trying to burn a copy of the Alamo Bowl that will play on all DVD players.

I agree with Exhawg.

The Nero Suite should be able to do it. So can Avid, Ulead, Premiere and Canopus.
Some are much more difficult than others.
Check out the sites listed earlier.
They have as many guides as there are videos.
You just have to figure out what you want to do, what program can do it and how to do it.

For an easy way to burn content found on the net to <?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags" /><st1:stockticker w:st="on">DVD</st1:stockticker> (playable on your set top player) try these two programs. With these two programs you can take any video found on the internet and convert it to play on your regular <st1:stockticker w:st="on">DVD</st1:stockticker> player.
  • Cucusoft-use this to convert avi and mpeg files to an mpeg file compatible with <st1:stockticker w:st="on">DVD</st1:stockticker> authoring. For a full length movie this conversion can take a while, depending on your PC.
  • TMPGEnc-use this program to convert your mpeg video’s to an mpeg that will burn and play on your set top <st1:stockticker w:st="on">DVD</st1:stockticker> player. This program will allow your to make menu’s, edit video (limited) and has a burning program that will burn the video to your <st1:stockticker w:st="on">DVD</st1:stockticker> (+-) recordables.
Both programs can be found with a Google search. These programs take the “rocket science” out of burning <st1:stockticker w:st="on">DVD</st1:stockticker>’s.

I agree with others on the <st1:stockticker w:st="on">DVD</st1:stockticker> Shrink. I also have X-Copy. I don’t like the backup warning at the beginning of movies and you can’t make a copy of an X-Copy backup disk.

I use Vegas Video and DVD Architect... that will do the job but it's expensive. I like it more than Adobe Premier. You may be able to find it on the internet for "free" like a friend of mine did.

Most new DVD-Rs are dual layer now.
Brand new ones go for less than $100 (oh I wish I had a job)
So since Thump has a new comp, he more than likely has a dual layer burner.
Does that software give you any options with that? Or does it force you to
shrink it down to one layer?

Hey guys, I tried copying a DVD last night to no avail.

I downloaded DVDshrink and used it but once I shrank it, I couldn't get it to my burner to record. I can't download Nero b/c it's about 28mb and I have dial-up. I know, YUCK!!

I also downloaded AnyDVD or whatever it is called and it got rid of the copyright and copied the whole thing and when I put the blank DVD in the drive to burn it, it said I needed a DVD 9. Can anyone tell me what this means? When I used this program though, it didn't shorten the movie by getting rid of the previews and such.

Is there a way that I can shrink the movie and then somehow use the AnyDVD to copy the shortened version.

Again, the program I have on my computer for burning is RecordNow.

There has to be a way to burn what you shrunk to a DVD with RecordNow. I've never used it so I don't know what that would be. Can you download Nero someplace other than home and take it home?

I'm just guessing here, but I'd say it either wants a dual layer DVD-R or it might only be able to burn +R or -R and you are using the wrong one. My first burner only worked on +R and I bought -R for it. Couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work for the life of me. Didn't figure out I was a dumbass until I bought a new dual layer one that could burn to both + and -. Sold the old one on ebay. :bonk:

My burner burns both D+ and D-. It says on the front of the tower.
