DVD Burning Question

Hating the environment since 1994
    • I just got a new computer this week with a DVD Burner. I had a student burn Napoleon Dynamite for me but don't know how she did it b/c when I tried to copy and burn some DVD's I have; Dodgeball, Anchorman etc... they are all copyright protected and won't allow me to do it.

    Any idea how she did it and I can't?
     
    DVD Shrink is the best especially if you use Nero. It is free to download, just Google it. I have only had 1 movie that won't copy. Some of them are protected, but you just have to burn the main movie and drop all of the menus and special features.

    I, I mean you, can use DVD Decrypter to rip the movie, copy it from the DVD to your hard drive removing copy protection. If you do not have Nero DVD Decrypter will burn the new DVD also.

    Then use DVD Shrink to remove previews and other content you do not need or want like French subtitles. It allows you to shrink the movie down, if necessary to fit on a 4.7GB DVD. Some movies are actually on a 8GB dual layer DVD. My DVD burns dual layer but the media is not generally available or cheap. You can buy 50 8X DVD's for $25 on sale at Best Buy, Circuit City and other places.

    It can take up to 45 minutes to rip a DVD and 6-12 minutes to burn depending on your processor and DVD speed.

    BIATCH gave you a good site, google DVD ripping or copying, there are a lot of others. Remember the DMA says this is illegal. So is speeding, use your best judgement.

    Thump... basically you can't copy a DVD like you can copy a CD. It's a process and you'll need a specific program to do it. Check out the web sites and programs the others mentioned... I have DVD X Copy and love it, never had a problem. If you try to copy a DVD that you made like home videos and such... you can copy that like a CD.

    I'm sure what everyone said will work, but DVD Shrink will do it all by itself. Just click open disk, then get rid of all the languange crap you don't need, and click backup. If you can get a copy of Nero (try downloading it with the crack if you don't want to buy it) it will take care of everything else itself. DVD Shrink is freeware so you don't have to worry about it.

    I asked the student who burnt me the copy this morning and she said she just copied it so she must have the ripping program.

    By the way 27, why can you copy CD's then without any coptyright problems?

    Most DVD's are too big to fit on one single layer DVD-R anyway. That's why you need something that shrinks it down to fit.

    So DVDshrink is all I need to download? It will work in conjunction with the current software I already have?

    BYW, thanks a ton guys for all of your help. I'm somewhat of an amateur at DVD burning as you can tell.

    It works with Nero, but I'm not sure about anything else. If you are willing to copy DVD's just take the next step and download a cracked copy of Nero if you don't have it. For some reason every burner that I've ever owned came with Nero.

    because the morons who made CDs didnt realize eventually there will be ways to copy them. DVDs have so much more on them and are obviously more protected.
