be careful what you ask for...It would not be improvement. You can't just hand the keys over to just anyone for calling the offensive plays. Hazell would have been the only exception to the rule.

This is why I'm not down on Luke Fickell. He should be able to trust his assistants on the offensive and defensive sides of the ball.

Jim Bollman is awful. He has been for quite some time. More often than not the offensive line is the weak link in the offensive chain, the recruiting is questionable, and last night we saw what he can do when entirely given the reigns of the offense.

Jim Tressel was an offensive head coach. He had input into the offense. Luke is a defensive head coach. The defensive coordinator knows what he's doing. Heacock usually has solid, sound defensive game plans. It's not too often that we fans have a problem with anything on the defensive side of the ball. For me, that includes last night. Young squad in a road game. Couple of bumps early and then they settled down.

The offense looked inept. The running game was great and the protection was great. The play calling sucked. That offense was the Jim Bollman show. It's what most of us have suspected was there all along and last night we saw it in full effect. Bollman didn't have Jim Tressel to lean on last night and Luke didn't have an OC to lean on last night.

Agree to disagree then, you could turn the keys over to an intern and it would be an improvement.

Several things bother me. The whole Bollman saying Hall will start but Fickell was not sure thing...That pisses me off! Everybody has to be on the same page in practice, in the media, and off the field. And when that fails you had better fix it quick. Fickell is in a tight spot. Young guy stuck in the middle with a bunch of older guys who he had no control over when hired. Fickell has limited offensive knowledge and the big turn over has been the offense with suspensions and a former head coach who had a big say on the play calling. I feel for luke...He is in a tight spot..He has to take control, has to trust the assistants, has to jump ass, but at the same time be careful how he does it. Sticky!

The real devistation to the Ohio State football program caused by the "Tattoo 5" fiasco was not the suspensions of the players. It was not losing Pryor to the NFL. It will not be the NCAA penalities. It was losing Jim Tressel.

With that being said, after he lied to the Ohio State administration and NCAA about what he knew and when he knew it; YES, he had to go.

Again, though, we've seen enough of a Jim Tressel/Jim Bollman offensive game plan to know that last night probably would not have been much different if we just add Jim Tressel into the mix.

Having Tressel last night does not change the outcome, IMO.

I'm probably splitting hairs, but I would say the loss of Pryor is having the biggest impact on this season. The loss of Tressel will (most likely) have the biggest impact on the football program.

The buck stops with Fickell, but I think he was dealt a lousy hand esp. on the offensive side of the ball, with having to take that responsibility but not being given the opportunity to name/bring in assistants.

Maybe not; but the offense just looked "lost" (with the exception of Hall) out here and the defense didn't start playing until Miami's third offensive series.


Just sayin'.... maybe Tressel would have had them better prepared, more motivated, and/or whatever, to put in a full 60 minute effort that we could have been proud of. And yes, I do recall a few games where Tressel's teams did not play real great (i.e. came out "flat") too.

Can Fickell have good recruiting classes if we stick with him? Are HS kids going to want to play for him if he has a bad season, even if he does get all new coordinators? There very well may be no other option than to go with a bigger name guy, if for no other reason than recruiting. It might not be fair to Fickell, because he was dealt a very bad hand, but it might need to be done (IF this season continues this way). If the team wins 8-9 games (3 or 4 losses) + a bowl win, I think he'll keep his job. Right now we have no right talking about a potential B1G Championship Game appearance.

If he was given a true chance to bring in his own guys after Dick and Bollman leave I think he would do somthing to address what we can all see....I could see him bringing in a dare I say Walt Harris and giving him the controll he would want over the offense.

That said I think coach Fickells fate has already been sealed

This is a type of school that I think you should earn your coaching spot with. Luke is doing his best here, but he inherited the job. He hasn't earned it by going to D-1AA and then to the MAC and then to a mid major like Utah (hint hint) he was unfortunately thrust into a very difficult position.

In saying that this one of the biggest football programs in the nation (#2 i think) and it deserves a head coach that is on the same level reputable wise. Big time school needs a big time PROVEN coach.
