I work at Taco Bell and it's policy to tell the General Manager two weeks before you go on vacation that you're going. So, three weeks ago I tell her that I'm going on vacation in two weeks (I was on vacation last week). So she writes down in this calender/schedule thing that I'm going to be gone so that she doesn't put me on the schedule.

The last day that I worked before I went on vacation I looked at the schedule to see when I would be working next after I got back and I was on the schedule for almost everyday when I would be gone. I told her and she didn't remember me telling her two weeks before but she looked at the calender/schedule and there it was. I wasn't supposed to work. So she says that she'll take me off the schedule.

Yesterday I got back from vacation to find a message on my answering machine from the GM wondering where I was and why I hadn't been at work.

How can anybody be so dumb?

One thing I have learned.....some people are not going to be as polished or professional because they have a cultural glass ceiling. What I mean by that is that (for instance) some people will never go to college because they are expected to work at the mill or at Taco Bell and they will never have the skills to be a 'top performer' and undestand things like good management.

I hope I didn't sound like a snob there but if you learn to accept people's limitations it limits your own frustration 50% of the time. When I called to cancel my Sprint account 2 years ago some customer serviec manager said I had to pay a $199 cancellation fee because I was in contract. I knew I wasn't therefore I wrote a letter to the President of the company. Needless to say they refunded me the money.

I worked for fast food once and let's face it, these people have alot going on and when you have 15 employees it's tough to remember everone's schedule. Minimum wage is good for two reasons: it teaches you to earn a living and gives you wings to fly to a better living.

You answered your own question without knowing it. This person is an adult, and they are a Taco Bell manager. I doubt she dropped out of CalTech to take such a wonderful career opportunity!

Uh, that's why they make those "calendar thingys". If the general manager cannot handle the scheduling of 15 employees, especially when an employee gives more than the requested lead time in vacation requests, then he/she should not be a fucking general manager in the first place.

Ideally yes. Realistically no. You are talking about high school graduates.....maybe and they are big into habit, not thinking. I went through the same shit when I worked minimum wage jobs. Thank God I had the gumption to get out of the minimum wage racket.

Amen. Problem is, I bet the majority of taco bell general managers are just as stupid. Hell I work for one of the biggest ISP's in Ohio, and half the people I work for are stupid. Seems that the stupid people always end up in charge somehow. Maybe it's because they are so stupid, the people who put them in that position feel bad for them, or the people who put them in that position are just as stupid?

Hmm......deep thoughts.
