If you do not think Boren being on the roster does not affect the number of schollie OL we have/they pursue then I think you are being naive.
I don't think boren affects how many they take in the 2010 class.

Interesting. Why do you feel that way? So we are clear, if Boren was not on the roster at all it would still be the "same ol' same ol'?"
Most linemen redshirt, and if they don't, they are rarely effective in their first year.

2010 recruits arrive in Boren's final year at OSU.

The way I interpret that is, if they didn't have Boren, they'd need one more OL on the roster, and they would have tabbed it for last year or this year, not for next year. If they added another OL this year and next year, that would be adding two for the absence of one.

Ahh. My main point was a player like Boren on your roster affects recruiting at his position...whether it be last year, this year, or next year....

I see what you are saying though. Good point.

And I'm not sure that's right. LS is a ST position. LS don't generally take reps at any of the 5 OL positions. They LS exclusively. At least here they have. And they don't take up a scholly for 4 years. They're usually rewarded to upperclassmen who have worked hard and earned the starting job.

Whether or not LS is considered part of the OL scholarship total doesn't really matter in this conversation. The only reason I brought it up is it was included in the 18 number. Thus, if someone doesn't want to include LS with the OL then the number becomes: 18 - 1 = 17.

I'm not saying I agree or disagree with needing that many, I was just pointing out where Mili was coming from:

I'll bet you we take at least two more OL this class, which would bring us to 17 for 2010, and 18 if Fragel moves to OL as many predict.

Really good article by Duane on the versatility and talent on the roster..

I have a problem with offensive line recruiting. I am sure that is a surprise to all of you. I scratch my head with safety recruiting sometimes. No, a lot of times, especially right now with the fascination with Hagan, a Pennsylvania kid who does not have offers from Penn State or Pitt. But overall you have to look at the talent assembled and be impressed. That the Buckeyes are dominating the Big Ten in a way that we have only seen at one other time in the last 50 years or so is more than simply the conference being down. You still have to be good enough to take advantage of it.

Talented and versatile

Duane Long Website Won't Load in IE

I haven't been able to load Duane's website in Internet Explorer for about two weeks now. It starts to load, then I get an "aborted" error.

Anybody else having this problem? I can load it using Safari with no difficulty, but I greatly prefer using IE7.

Duane Long catching a little heat...

I wonder what is going to happen with Keith Wells. You have to believe the staff is ready to see him off too. They made a commitment to him. Redshirted him to put some distance between him and the stacked defensive end depth chart. I think they expected the arrangement to be a two-way street. Wells never had grade problems until he came here. He is obviously an intelligent kid. That he has problems again smacks of a kid who is not making the same kind of commitment to Ohio State that Ohio State made to him. I am usually one who falls into the camp of giving kids another chance. We let Ray Small have too many. I hope we do not do the same thing with Wells.
Totally unfounded rumor-mongering.

Keith Wells' father agrees:

Why

written by Keith Wells Dad, December 21, 2009

My son is doing just fine thank - you.

He is practicing with the team and doing better academically. He should not be in this conversation as he is working hard and doing what is expected.

Why do you print such nonsense with out all the facts ?

A concerned Father

Assuming this is his father, I think Duane might be regretting the amount of negative rumors he throws out on his blog.

Ugh, I hate this sh*t. I love Scout's policy of letting the University report academic and discipline news for these kids and giving the 'inside' football-related news... if someone reported every idiotic thing and missed homework assignment I had in college, I would have been a one-man TMZ...

Agreed. All it takes is one bad rumor to make you look like a jerk. And Duane is no jerk which makes this situation even more unfortunate.
