One day after Piqua High School's (and Ohio State verbal) Brandon Saine was honored as Ohio's Mr. Football another Piqua Football product, Ohio State's Senior Defensive Tackle, Quinn Pitcock was named to the First Team of the American Football Coaches Association All-America Team.

Congrats to Quinn, Piqua Football, and The Ohio State University!

EDIT: Missed the thread started on this...Kudos anyway!

Dec. 6, 2006

HOUSTON, Texas - Ohio State's Quinn Pitcock, along with two other finalist of the 37th annual Rotary Lombardi Award, spent Wednesday visiting children battling cancer in Houston, site of the Lombardi Award presentation.

Pitcock, LaMarr Woodley of Michigan and Justin Blaylock of Texas toured The Children's Cancer Hospital and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center early Wednesday followed by a visit to the Texas Children's Hospital Hematology/Oncology Clinic, Main Hospital and Pre-Teen Room.
Paul Posluszny of Penn State, the final of the four finalists for the Lombardi Award, given annually to the college lineman of the year, arrived Wednesday afternoon following exams in State College.

Pitock spent the morning signing autographs, posing for photographs and speaking to patients and their families.

"I was so excited to see everyone today," Pitcock, a senior defensive tackle for the Buckeyes, said. "The kids had smiles on their faces as soon as we walked in their rooms. We feel like we're tough but these kids are the tough ones. I love doing this and giving back."

The players, along with Miss Texas USA Megan Ellis, a freshman at the University of Houston, also took part in a radio show on site at the Texas Children's Hospital. Patients asked questions of the group for a kids radio station called Radio Lollipop, which is broadcast to the children at the hospital.

Earlier in the day Pitcock and Woodley sat in on a class with one of the patients who was taking part in an elementary school class via video hookup between the hospital and her hometown classmates.
The players spent the afternoon getting fitted for tuxedos, conducting interviews and resting before the formal banquet and the announcement of the winner Wednesday evening.

I honestly think Branch might be the best defensive player in America this year. Good lord, that guy is a freak of nature. There are some GREAT DT's in college football right now. Adams, Moses, Woodley, Branch (Jr.), Dorsey (Jr.), Okam (Jr.), Pitcock. DT is probably the deepest position in the country this year.

Woodley won not Branch. I think Pitcock will be the first DT taken in the draft.

Michigan's Woodley wins Lombardi Award over OSU's Pitcock

By the Associated Press

Thursday, December 07, 2006

HOUSTON ? Michigan defensive end LaMarr Woodley won the Rotary Lombardi Award as the nation's top college lineman or linebacker Wednesday night, becoming the first Wolverine to win the honor.
The 6-foot-2, 269-pound Woodley was the Big Ten's Defensive Player of the Year after ranking among the nation's leaders in sacks (11), tackles for loss (15.5) and forced fumbles (4).
The other three finalists were Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny, Ohio State defensive tackle Quinn Pitcock and Texas offensive guard Justin Blalock. Posluszny also was a finalist last season.
The Wolverines (11-1) will play Southern Cal (10-2) in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1. Woodley said he'll root for the Buckeyes (12-0) a week later and that the Wolverines have shaken off the disappointment of getting snubbed by the BCS rankings.
"Guys were down a little bit, but we have to understand that we put ourselves in that situation," Woodley said. "We allowed other people to control our destiny. If we would've come out, won in Columbus, taken care of our business, it would've never come down to that.?
