Hankins hits his head

The only player who had to be helped from the field because of injury was defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins.

He appeared to hit his head when he fell after getting juked by Miller on a 4-yard run during the offense's first touchdown drive. Though Hankins did not return to the scrimmage, coach Jim Tressel said he did not believe Hankins' ailment would be long-lasting.

"He had a great scrimmage up to that point," Simon said.

I saw this in Mike Brewsters thread from a blog he did for tOSU site in the spring http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/...ael-brewster-all-american-48.html#post1950861 but didn't see the quote posted over here.

I want to give a shout out to a few guys who have impressed me this spring. First off, Big Johnathan Hankins is a force to be reckoned with in the trenches. He is only going to be a sophomore, but he has already established himself as one of the best guys I have gone against since I've been in college

The biggest impact player of the day on defense, however, had to be defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins. Even without pads, ?Big Hank,? as he is known, was disrupting things on the offensive line, and on one play he knocked both Michael Brewster and Jack Mewhort on their butts.

With Garrett Goebel locking down the nose tackle spot, it has freed up Hankins to play more aggressively at the 3-technique.

Big Hank Could Reshape Defensive Line

COLUMBUS, Ohio ? It was hard to miss Johnathan Hankins when he showed up at Ohio State last fall.

At 6-3 and close to 350 pounds, Hankins was a massive figure as an 18-year old kid out of Dearborn Heights, Michigan.

A little too massive.

?He played maybe 15 snaps a game last year, but we're going to need a lot more from him,? OSU Head Coach Luke Fickell said.

?I don't know if there's a whole lot that changed about him but he understood the system and being in a program for a year can play longer so you can see more of him.?

What impressed me about Hankins last year is that he did not look like a kid who had experienced the full benefits of a college conditioning program. If true that gives him a huge upside.

Johnathan ?Big Hank? Hankins isn?t as big as he used to be. At 330 pounds, the defensive tackle is a pee-wee compared with his 375-pound freshman teammate, Ohio State offensive lineman Chris Carter.

Perhaps Hankins should work on changing his nickname to ?New Hank,? because he said that after showing up as a freshman last year ?at about 350, 355,? his leaner self is better suited to getting the job done on the defensive line.

?I feel lighter on my feet,? the 6-foot-3 Hankins said. ?I feel like I can get a good pass rush and stay in all four downs. So I will continue with that through camp.?

That?s the goal that defensive coordinator Jim Heacock has for Hankins. The first true big-body defensive lineman at Ohio State since ?Big Daddy? Dan Wilkinson in the early 1990s, Hankins hasn?t come close to realizing his potential, according to Heacock. But at least now it is on the horizon.

?I think he can go more than two plays? compared with his limit last year, Heacock said. ?That?s the thing we?ve talked to him about. I?d like to have him on the field more than as just a first-down guy, or ?it?s second-and-short; let?s get Hank out there.? I?m trying to talk to him about being an every-down player.?

Hankins is listening. He saw spot duty last season and occasionally flashed what could be a pile-driving presence from several launch points along the interior line.

?I want to be a good impact on the defense, help out the defensive backs and the linebackers,? Hankins said. ?And with this being my second year, I think I can put a little bit more into it now that I?m working at the chance of being a starter. So it?s just giving an all-around good effort.?

While he gets Big Hank's position wrong; he shows more awareness of the Buckeyes than Gerry Dinardo does. Not bad when you consider that Cirminiello's job entails keeping track of 108 more teams than Dinardo has to follow.

I think the poster was referring to Hankins playing Nose Tackle which I believe is the spot occupied by Goebel.
