Montini's Garrett Goebel recently picked the Buckeyes over their hated rivals, Michigan.

?Ohio State and Michigan were my two favorites,? said Goebel, who received close to 30 scholarship offers from various schools around the country. ?There wasn?t really anything negative about either school; both are great schools. I just felt Ohio State was a better fit for me and I felt like that was where I wanted to spend my next four years.?

When Goebel arrives on the campus of Ohio State in 2008, he will take his place as a member of the defensive line, more specifically the defensive tackle position.

?I like defense better,? Goebel said, who visited the school twice, including in late March to watch a spring practice. ?Most schools said I could play defense or offense, but I wanted to play defense all along. It didn?t play much a part in my decision.?

Chris Andriano, the legendary Montini head coach entering his 29th year at the helm, knows what the Buckeyes are getting with his star player, who was the Suburban Catholic Conference lineman of the year last fall along with the Class AA individual wrestling champion in the heavyweight division.

?He is relentless and has that motor that never stops,? Andriano said. ?He is strong and big enough to fill gaps up front. He has great leverage and because of his wrestling skills, you can't block him 1-on-1. He is just a force; a lean, strong 270-pound kid. And he is a good young man.

By Adam Jardy...talks about his decision to choose OSU over UM.

Apparently there was a breakdown in communication when this interview occurred. It was OSU that offerred early (Garrett's 3rd or 4th offer) where as UM was one of his last offers. This (OSU early offer) was what put the Buckeyes at the top of Garrett's list!!! Good thing that UM did not offer/ or contact Garrett until May!!! Buckeye staff are second to NONE!!

Go to http://www.montini.org/s/200/splash.aspx

They open at home 8/25 vs. Springfield Sacred Heart (36-0 record, 3X Class 5A IL State Champs)

Montini snaps SHG 28 game winning streak!!! Montini 34 SHG 24. Goebel had two knockdown passes, 1 QB sack, 2 tackles for loss + several dominant plays. Offensively 4-5 pancake blocks and his usual unpenetrable pass blocking.Awesome start for Montini!!! We (garrett, brother Grant, Garrett's parents and myself)
fly in next Sat. 9am to Columbus for home opener. Hope to meet some of you if possible!!!!

Tim O'Halloran is THE AUTHORITY in IL. Has his own website www.edgytimrivals.com and is a honorable, knowledgeable & objective analyst. He has been a tremendous help to Garrett, myself & several other IL athletes which I am helping in the recruiting process. "Edgy" (Tim O.) has always made himself available and has done an awesome job getting IL high school athletes recognized / recruited. Spoke to him @ last PM's SHG vs Montini game.
