DT Adolphus "Diesel" Washington (Official Thread)

Yeah me too. I think he's going to have a blow up game against Hawaii. He freed up Tommy to really get some action going last week and show up on the film. With Joey back raising pure hell on one end and Tyquan holding his own on the other, 'Dolph might be in for several big plays this week.

Really like how Adolphus is playing this year. Solid against the run, getting a nice push vs. the pass, and just keeps playing at a consistently high level.
He is playing great and what I am excited to see is that they are all playing within the system and starting to gel with each other as a unit and also with the LBs. The LBs have to know what the DL is doing so that they know where the gaps are going to be. This helps with the run, as we saw what happens when one LB does not seal the edge and the dbs are gone. It also helps with the blitzes so the lbs don't run into the backs of the DL. I would like to see more damage from the blitzes however, because if they don't get there the dbs are stressed. They also can not be simply pushed back 3 to 4 yards by default and that's where the emergence of Hill is very important.

Change isn't Always Easy, Just Ask Adolphus Washington

You know Adolphus Washington the nose tackle; the player who ate up blocks throughout last year to help defensive ends Joey Bosa and Steve Miller and defensive tackle Michael Bennett – now with the NFL’s Jacksonville Jaguars – rise to stardom. But do you remember Adolphus Washington the defensive end?

That’s right, it’s coming back now. Washington was part of Urban Meyer’s first recruiting class in 2012, along with fellow lineman Tommy Schutt and former teammate Noah Spence, now at Eastern Kentucky.

At that point, Washington was a highly recruited defensive end out of Cincinnati. He was the number one player in Ohio and the number two player at his position according to the 247 composite.

Washington came to Columbus and excelled as a freshman, playing in 10 games his first year on campus and finishing third on the team with three sacks, ahead of names like Spence, Bennett, and Jonathan Hankins.

Yet in a program like Ohio State, you move your feet, lose your seat. Washington missed two games early in the season and another highly touted defensive end took his spot.

“When I got my spot taken by Joey,” Washington said of what happened while he was injured his sophomore year.

Washington had a good freshman year, but it was nothing compared to Joey Bosa’s. The monster defensive end out of Florida had 7.5 sacks, 44 total tackles, and 13.5 tackles for a loss on his way to freshman All-American honors.

“I pretty much knew that the way he was playing, I was either going to be his backup or I had to switch positions in order to get back on the field,” Washington said. “So that’s what I did.”

Super unselfish player and he's finally "getting his" in this defense. If he continues his current play, he's making some serious cash at the end of the year. Mock drafts have him a first rounder at the moment. Awesome for Dolph!
