I'd rather be napping!!
I have been googling and not found anything and thought I would ask you guys. My kids birthdays are both coming up here in Sept, and I wanted to see if I could get a keg of draft root beer to put in the beer meister to make floats for the party-s. I was wondering if any of you had any experience with kegs of rootbeer, where to get it, does it need a special tap, things/quirks involved that I should know about before hand? I haven't had real draft rootbeer since I was a kid and it sounds really goog to me as well...

Call an A&W restaurant and ask them if it is possible to purchase such a keg.

Thanks guys, Hosters does have it. Surprisingly more expensive that beer beer thougth ($35 for a 1/4). Thanks to AK for his suggestions as well!

edit and to answer my own questions just so everyone knows, it is ready for a regular beer tap, although the lady that answered the phone couldn't answer questions regarding CO2 pressure she said that they could tell me whe I picked it up.

So, we decided to test it out a little early (before the birthdays). Let me say this, since Hosters closed, there is a place called C B Beverage on Harmon, that is where Hosters was going to get it anyway.

Last weekend, we had both little league teams over (roughly 25 kids and however many parents), 7.75 gals of Frostop rootbeer, 6 gals of ice cream. I was the scoopman and float maker. I don't believe I have had that much fun in quite a while. Bless the wife cuz she and another mom did all the cooking.

The root beer was complete heaven, I had been worried that it wouldn't live up the my childhood memories.... it was better! Wayyyyy better. I would recomend this to anyone who has a beer miester type of thing and wants to have something special for the kids. I will also pimp the frostop and cb beverage, very freindly folks and the guy brought the keg out to my truck and would have put it in if I would have let him (he was pretty old so I just sat it on the seat). The downfall of cb berverage is the hours (9-3).

We also moved the beer miester to the garage to minimize mess, and let me tell you, rootbeer is some seriously sticky shit, the next day the top of the beer meister looked like glass from all the sugar and whatnot that had dried on top of it.

I am getting a little long winded here, just wanted to chime in and say "Frostop Draft Rootbeer is heaven!", and it goes good with ice cream too!

Some words of warning when dispensing root beer through your beer meister: root beer flavor and aroma is notorious for staying in your beer line. If it only had contact for a short period of time you might be okay, but once you dispense beer again and if it tastes and smells of root beer try flushing and soaking your lines in a baking soda solution. If that doesn't work you'll have to replace your line.

I know many homebrewers who also make their own root beer and consequently have to dedicate a separate tap and line just for that.

Thanks, I'll know tonight after practice!
