Downtime Thursday night/Friday morning

Clarity

We'll be coming down for a few hours either very late Friday morning, or late Thursday night. The kernel will be rebuilt, and if that goes well, we'll also be updating the operating system, php, mysql, and apache. I expect this to last between 2 and 4 hours.

The hope is that a new kernel might help resolve some of the system crashes. The reality is we just don't know either way. Here's hoping.

Many thanks to those of you who have already contributed to this amazing Spring Drive. This work wouldn't have been possible without it, nor (frankly) would have been paying our colocation fee this month.

I don't think you have to thank us for contributing a little bit when you have given so much. Thank you!

Just curious...
Just kidding with ya. The stats are around somewhere, probably in the server drive thread. Clarity's probably prepping for the maintenance tonight, so I doubt he'll see this and answer tonight. He auto-refreshes the site, so it just looks like he's online at the moment.

We're up with a new kernel, and all new versions of apache, php, and mysql.

Just checking things now. Please post here if you all see something that's not working.

The big test will be to see if we have any more crashes.

What OS are you using and what kind of hardware do you have?

Dual Intel Xeon 3GHz Procs w/1mb ea. (I *think* these were dual core? The exact chip info is available somewhere in the 'new server' thread.)
16gb RAM (8x 2gb ddr2)
4x Seagate 36gb 10k SCSI HDDs
Gentoo Linux
Apache 2
PHP Version 5.2.8-pl2-gentoo
MySQL 5.0.76-log

BPwiki looks pretty much dead. There is no list of articles on the main page. If you click on "random article", it only shows the title. I tried different viewing options, but they're all the same. I rarely check the wiki, so this may not be related to the update. Everything else on the toolbar seems as normal. I did notice that on vBookie, you can only view bets by their status (open, closed, abandoned), which is not how I remember it. Again, it's not something I use very often. BTW, I will be offline for the next few hours, so I'll check back later if you want more info, but it may be in the evening.

Thanks, good catch on the Wiki.

I was going to be disconnecting that from vB anyway, so it's okay that's acting wonky. Still, it may mean that we're missing some sort of option in php. I'll check when I wake up later.

Thanks.
