Recruit turns down an elite program for a not elite program, then turns down a not elite program for a middling program. There's usually a reason for that. He's probably better off at Virginia Tech. Ohio State's probably better off with him at Virginia Tech.
That's not fair. He wasn't looking for anything. He was looking to play for Urban Meyer at Ohio State.
He reminds me of Josh Myers - a tackle against mostly bad competition in HS who is almost certainly destined to play inside in college (at least at Ohio State).
Edit: and I see now he has actually been moved to being listed as a G by 247.
So the question is - does Ohio State need another body on the inside?
Another factor is how early he committed in the cycle - before summer camp evaluations and senior season film.
It would not surprise me at all if Ohio State and Nester are moving in separate directions.
Just for the record, he started looking around in early September, well before Urban Meyer was out the door.
To LJB’s point, I had this hot take back in September when he took his first visit to Va Tech. Nester has done nothing but drop lower and lower in the rankings since then.
That depends- in my opinion the rumblings about his exit didn’t pick up steam until he went to his knee clutching his head on the sidelines against Indiana on October 6th.But well after the rumblings of Meyer leaving at the end of the season, which turned out to be true, began.

There was plenty of talk of him being unhappy with Gene Smith and/or President Drake before that, but not much in the way of him actually leaving.
My recollection of the general feeling prior to the health stuff was “why would he participate in a press conference he clearly wasn’t happy with if he didn’t want to stick around.”
Edit: then again, I guess that Ari Wasserman article speculating about Day as the coach in waiting may have come out prior to October 6.
Edit edit: the Wasserman article was September 22, so still well after Nester’s first visit to Va Tech.
At the end of the day it doesn’t really matter though. Nester is going to Va Tech and Ohio State will move on.
He visited Va Tech on Sept 8.Colin Cowherd said on his radio show on Sept 17th that USC would be firing Clay Helton at the end of the season and would be reaching out to Urban Meyer. He said Urban would listen because he's out due to lack of support and was looking to leave OSU at the end of the season. It was talked about on ESPN for most of the day and on twitter that entire week.
Joel Klatt said something similar a couple days later when saying Helton gets too much blame, but if they were going to let him go, they were going to go hard after Urban Meyer because he isn't happy. Those quotes were everywhere on Twitter as well.
The USC stuff didn't happen, but I think even that speculation and the subsequent twitter chatter was loud enough for Doug to listen.
Visited Virginia Tech yesterday to take in their game.
Hope he stays with the Buckeyes.
He visited Va Tech on Sept 8.
Okay, you’ve convinced me. I take back my previous conjecture about how this is related to Studrawa. It does seem likely that this is mostly related to Meyer. He also commented that he was taking that visit, "in case something happens."
i.e. Meyer leaving.
That happened and he's flipping to the school that he visited at that time. It looks like he had a plan and stuck with it.

Yeah, I feel like I’ve spent too much time on it.From what I've read from Marc Givler and Bill Greene, he actually does have a solid relationship with Stud. He was the only one who did. Harry Miller was all Ryan Day and Urban. Ryan Jacoby would've been a Buckeye regardless.
This is an assumption, but I also think it was concerning to him that there was talk of Stud leaving at one point.
Who knows really, right?
Man that was a hot take, but you were money baby. Money.Just for the record, he started looking around in early September, well before Urban Meyer was out the door.

So it's your fault.Just for the record, he started looking around in early September, well before Urban Meyer was out the door.

I compare it more to Corning.Blacksburg is a lot more like Huntington than Columbus. Culture shock may have at least a little to do with it.
